• Continuity Nod: Meowth's "First the Movie Short" quote references the Gotta Dance! Pikachu short.
• Corner of Woe: Because James was not happy that Jesse and Meowth decided to just steal the egg, he and Mime Jr. spend the entire motto sulking.
• A Day in the Limelight: Parodied. The head judge and star of this competition is Mr. Sukizo. He still only uses variants of "Remarkable!", even during his opening speech.
• Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Jesse and Meowth decided to steal the egg outright instead of continuing into the contest, even though they still have a chance of winning. This becomes their undoing when James and Mime Jr., who again want to play fair, decides to undermine the Rockets' escape.
