Recap / Pokémon PK7 "Pikachu & Pichu"

Go To

The 7th Pikachu Short, 3rd to be released worldwide, and shown prior to Pokémon 3.

In this, Pikachu and the rest of the Pokemon get some time to be out of their Poke Balls while Ash, Misty and Brock prepare for something.

Pikachu sees some mischievous Pichus across the street, and is forced to dive down on to a bus top to rescue both of them.

Successful in the rescue, the bus then takes them away from the building, and then the wind blows them off the bus.

After touring the city for a little while, they cross paths with a Houndour.

The Pichus bring Pikachu to their home to escape the Houndour, but the Houndour still finds them and causes the home to come apart.

The Pokemon all then work together to keep the structure from toppling over, eventually managing to stabilize it.

Once done, the Pichus bring Pikachu back to building Pikachu was originally was at, just in time for the party.

This Short Provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Banned Episode: This short was banned from further re-releases in Japan as part of the unpersoning of narrator Noriko Sakai following her drug abuse scandal in 2009. As this is a case concerning a specific voice actor, its foreign dubs are still clear for circulation.
  • Culture Chop Suey: The short takes place in a city that, at least in English Dub, takes cues from New York, Chicago and New Orleans.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Pichu Brothers, with the youngest being the most mischievous and impulsive and the eldest being more cautious.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: The way to tell the Pichu Brothers apart is to look for the Tuft of Head Fur, which belongs to the eldest and most responsible of the two.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The Pichu Brothers are mischievous and their first meeting with Pikachu has one of them making fun of him, but they are willing to help Pikachu navigate through the city to get back to his friends.
  • Milestone Celebration: In-Universe, it is the Anniversary of Ash getting Pikachu and leaving Pallet Town (which means Ash is 11 now, or at least, he should be).
  • Product-Promotion Parade: The song-and-dance in the back-alley fun house, which serves solely to introduce the new mons. And an excuse for gratuitous swing music.
