Recap / Pinky And The Brain S 2 E 2

Go To

"Collect 'Em All" / "Pinkasso" is the second episode of the second season of Pinky and the Brain.

As the title suggests, this episode contains two cartoons. In "Collect 'Em All", Brain uses the Gutenberg printing press to create a series of collectible cards that will cause children to fall under his control when they collect the whole set. In "Pinkasso", Brain uses Pinky's new fame as an artist to finance his latest plan for world domination.

"Collect 'Em All" contains examples of:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Alongside the typical exchange, there's another one with Brain providing the final example. After Pinky suggests that they package their trading cards with something pink and chewy that everyone likes so that people will buy them, Brain sees the obvious answer — include sausages.
  • Cassandra Truth: The villagers believe that Pinky is trying to trick them when he tells them to Look Behind You.
  • Kill It with Fire: The villagers burn Pinky and Brain at the stake. The cartoon ends before we see them escape.
  • Look Behind You: Pinky does this near the end, when he notices the Pied Piper taking the children of the village away.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Torches and Pitchforks: The parents of the village form one when protesting Brain's cards.

"Pinkasso" contains examples of:

  • Accidental Art: Brain's plan is to become a famous artist. This fails, but Pinky attempts to drink the contents of Brain's brush jar (a milk carton) and promptly spits it out onto a canvas. Cue this trope.
  • The Cameo: Yakko, Wakko and Dot can be seen admiring Pinky’s artwork in the gallery.
  • Dead Artists Are Better: Brain exploits this by pretending that Pinky has died, so that his paintings will be worth even more money.
  • Shout-Out: Pinky's alias parodies Pablo Picasso.
    • Brain calls himself Toulouse-LaBrain, a reference to Toulouse Lautrec.
    • The art critic's "two noses up" parodies the "thumbs up/down" rating method of Siskel and Ebert.
    • Pinky references Red Skelton, Lenny and Squiggy and the Macarena.
  • Spit Take: Pinky does one after he accidentally drinks from Brain's paint-filled milk carton.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: The people attending the auction form one (without the pitchforks) when Pinky accidentally reveals that he is still alive.
