Recap / Phineas and Ferb "Where's Perry? (Part Two)"

Go To

Continuing from the previous episode, Perry has mysteriously disappeared, Phineas and the gang are still in the uncharted gorge, Candace does not take her supposed breakup with Jeremy well, Evil Carl attempts to find Perry and destroy him, and Monogram and Doofenshmirtz attempt to stop him.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: The reason Linda and Lawrence had no reservation was because they accidentally filled it under the name "Fletcher-Flynn" instead of the other way around.
  • Argument of Contradictions: Baljeet and Buford get into one regarding Brains Versus Brawn, so much, it's as if Dan and Swampy ripped off a scene from The Powerpuff Girls episode, "Three Girls and a Monster".
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: A rather Off-Model example occurs with Candace as Candar, as you can see here.
  • Bond One-Liner:
    • The Phineas-bot is hovering over Candace when it holds up deadly tools and proclaims, "I know what I'm gonna destroy today!"
    • After the Candace robot destroys the Phineas robot, it uses Candace's catchphrase, "You're busted".
  • Brains and Brawn: Baljeet and Buford continue their argument from the previous episode.
  • Brick Joke: Buford's confusion of Africa with Australia is brought up. In the previous episode, the tour guide explained to Buford why there are not kangaroos in Africa, and Buford believes that "Afristalia" is full of platypuses.
  • Bring It: Agent P taunts Evil Carl to get him by waving his paw at him, since Evil Carl needs his paw print to access the OWCA computer so he can take over the Tri-State Area.
  • Cassandra Truth: The rest of the gang don't believe that Phineas saw Perry, since he is supposed to be back in Danville, but Phineas is insistent he saw him. It isn't until they see his footprints that they finally believe him.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Perry's picture of Phineas and Ferb. First introduced in the first part, it is used in this part to reflect the Re-Good-inator's beam at Carl, turning him good again.
  • Cool Shades: Monogram puts on a pair that somehow hold up on his face. Doof asks if M.C. Escher made the shades, and Monogram claims he was a friend of the family.
  • Creature of Habit: Doof has to "behold" his inator before he activates it, but Monogram tells him there's no time.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Evil Carl's robot duplicates of various characters include Norm, who is already a robot.
  • Dissimile: Monogram tells Doof that Carl is only playing him "like a penny whistle in a really bad jazz band".
  • Distracted by My Own Sexy: The Monogram-bot tells his human doppelgänger, "Put 'em up... handsome."
  • Eat That: Isabella continues her quest to obtain a Grub Eating Patch. Finally achieved when Iggy gives her a s'more that has grubs baked into it.
  • Enemy Mine: Monogram has to team up with Doofenshmirtz in order to stop Evil Carl.
  • Evil Is Petty: As established in the previous episode, the only reward that Carl is hoping to get for being evil is extra credit for college.
  • Failed a Spot Check: One of the elephants responding to Candace's Tarzan Yell is still wearing a fedora. Perry nervously points above his head in a sort of "Dude, your hat!" manner, and the elephant quickly discards it.
  • Freak Out: When Candace believes Jeremy has broken up with her, she pretty much has a total meltdown, runs off into the wild, and goes full-on Jungle Princess.
  • Going Native: Candace runs off to live with the local monkeys in the jungle when she thinks Jeremy broke up with her. She even says it word-for-word.
Candace: (crying) Candace is out! PEEEEEEAAAAAAAACE! I'M GOING NATIVE!!!
  • Great Big Book of Everything: The Fireside Girl Manual may have pages about time travel and giant space robots, but apparently, not escaping quicksand.
Isabella: I'll bring it up at the next meeting.
  • Haggis Is Horrible: Averted in one scene, where Phineas states that Ferb loves haggis.
  • Hand Wave: Mercilessly. Perry is sent by an inator to Africa where the kids eventually find him. When the cast begins to wonder how Perry managed to appear in Africa, Ferb just reminds us that ever since the discovery of platypus, the species was synonymous with impossible. The explanation seems to be good enough for everybody but Candace...
  • Heel–Face Turn: Robot Candace, who was supposed to take Perry, sacrifices herself to save Candace from another robot, and deliver a message that Jeremy left for her, mainly because Evil Carl never made a Jeremy robot for her.
  • Honking Arriving Car: Parodied, as Doof modified the horn of the OWCA plane to play "La Cucaracha".
Major Monogram: You modified the horn?!
Doofenshmirtz: That's what I needed the stabilizer for!
  • Hulk Speak: It's implied that Candace as Candar talks like this.
  • I Shall Taunt You: When leaving to search for Agent P, Monogram attempts to remind him he is an intern working for OWCA.
    Evil Carl: Not anymore, Monogrampa!
    Doofenshmirtz: "Monogrampa"? I, I... That's good! Why didn't I think of that?
  • Inevitable Waterfall: When Evil Carl makes Phineas and the gang fall into the rapids, they approach a waterfall.
  • Jungle Princess: Candace became this after she thought that Jeremy had broken up with her, so she turned to live with monkeys learning their language and how to live in the jungle, starting to act like a primitive monkey and wearing a jungle outfit. Subverting the usual Animals Hate Her trope, she became friendly with animals and joined them in the fight against Carl's robots. She goes back to normal after her misunderstanding with Jeremy is cleared up.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Buford says he feels like he has been hanging onto a vine for weeks, commenting on the fact that this episode aired almost a month after the first part.
  • Literal-Minded: Monogram tells Doof to "hold down the fort".
Doofenshmirtz: Wait, we have a fort? What am I doing out here?
  • Metal Detector Checkpoint: Evil Carl uses a metal detector on the Evil Flynn-Fletcher Robots before they board the OWCA jet. The Lawrence robot attempts to bring a pineapple onto the jet, but Evil Carl has it discard the fruit.
  • Mirrors Reflect Everything: Evil Carl catches wise to Doof and Monogram's plan to shoot him with the inator, so he gets slightly out of range. Perry encourages Doof to take the shot anyway, so he does, and the shot bounces off a picture frame he has of Phineas and Ferb and back onto Evil Carl.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Ring-tailed lemurs were shown in mainland Africa, as well as a gorilla and a chimpanzee on the savannah.
  • Non-Promotion: When Evil Carl turns good again, Major Monogram, having realized how unappreciated Carl has felt in his position, promotes him to the title of "Paid Intern". But it is just a title, and OWCA still won't pay him, so it's essentially this trope.
  • Noodle Incident: When the episode opens, Lawrence is recalling to Linda a story involving a lava lamp and the reason why he's constantly humming.
  • Previously on…: Even though this is a two-parter, there is no traditional recap of the previous episode, only a brief one spoken by Carl.
Carl: Without Agent P's paw print, I can't unlock the computer. And without the computer, I can't take over the Tri-State Area.
    Major Monogram: Nice recap.
  • Primal Stance: This was one of "Candar's" traits, as you can see here.
  • Quicksand Sucks: Phineas and the gang use the Tree Buchet to get out of the rapids, but everyone except Buford land in a quicksand pit.
  • Redemption Equals Death: The robot Candace decides to take a lasershot for Candace after hearing the message Jeremy left for her, since no robot version of Jeremy was made for her.
  • Same Language Dub: As in the first part, Edi Gathegi voices Iggy in the American version, but Lenny Henry voices him in the UK dub.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: As in the first part, Harold Perrineau (Dawson from Lost) plays the Maitre d' at Chez Afrique.
  • Three... Two... One...: Doof is confident that now that Carl is away, he can take over the Tri-State Area, but Monogram warns him that Carl might try to take it over first.
Major Monogram: Let it sink in... two... three...
    Doofenshmirtz: (squeals)
    Major Monogram: Attaboy!
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: At first, Monogram tells Agent P he'll have to come home with them on the jet since he can't be in Africa when he is supposed to be back in Danville. However, when he hears Phineas looking for Agent P, he lets him have his vacation, saying he deserved it. Just a reminder, this is the very same Major Monogram who denied Perry time off repeatedly because evil never rests.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: Some of the Disney XD promos gave away that Perry was in Africa.
  • Tree Buchet: Phineas uses this so that he and the gang can escape the rapids and get back to Perry.
  • The Unreveal: Was Monogram joking when he told Doof that "Home is where the prisons are"? Well, given that in the next episode, he is back at Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc., he probably was.
  • Vine Swing: Candace first does this during the "Livin' with Monkeys" song, and does it a few more times in the battle.
  • The Voiceless: When Evil Carl and his Flynn-Fletcher robots check the Flynn-Fletcher house for Agent P's whereabouts, Grandpa Clyde is only seen sleeping but has no lines. Meanwhile, Grandma Betty Jo, who is supposed to be house and platypus-sitting with him, is nowhere to be seen.
  • "X" Marks the Spot: Unfortunately, Doof's re-good-inator cannot swivel and is conveniently pointed at an "X"-shaped rock. So Monogram gets Agent P to get Evil Carl to move toward it so Doof can shoot Carl with the inator.
  • You Fool!: Once again, Evil Carl calls Doof this.
