Recap / Phineas And Ferb Traffic Cam Caper

Go To

After Lawrence complains about getting a ticket thanks to a traffic camera recording footage in the neighborhood, Candace realizes that the camera has footage of Phineas and Ferb's inventions, and steals the DVD containing the footage so that she can show it to Linda.

Meanwhile, Agent P has to take the camera's recordings and bring them back to O.W.C.A. headquarters to protect his Secret Identity. To pull it off, Perry borrows Doofenshmirtz's giant robot man, Norm. Perry and Norm take the disc away from the kids later that night, resulting in a MacGuffin Melee between the kids and Perry/Norm.

Tropes

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Given the fact that Lawrence has actually seen a couple of Phineas' and Ferb's projects in person, you have to wonder about his dismissal of Candace's Cassandra Truth.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Overrides Candace's busting desire when forced to decide between saving Phineas and the traffic cam DVD.
  • The Cameo: Doofenshmirtz only appears in one scene.
  • Characterization Marches On: Norm has abandoned his "the enemy of the platypus" gimmick from his first appearance, but hasn't quite settled into his best-known characterization. He doesn't seem fully sentient, and mostly acts like a very jolly suit of Powered Armor for Agent P.
  • Continuity Nod: Candace discovers evidence of not only Phineas and Ferb's moon elevator, but also of other projects like the rollercoaster from the first episode, the beach from "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror", and the giant roller rink from "Crack that Whip".
  • Destroy the Evidence: What Perry has to do to protect his cover.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Norm appears for the second time, but he still shows no signs of sentience and runs on oil instead of a squirrel wheel.
  • Emergency Refuelling: Norm is running low on oil, so Perry the Platypus has to buy some oil and refill Norm as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, in his haste, he forgets to replace the oil cap, so the oil leaks out, preventing Norm from using his rocket skates.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Candace is faced with one at the bridge: save the disk with the proof to bust her brothers, or Phineas. She chooses the latter, and it appears Ferb saved the former as well. It turns out that it was really Perry in a costume, and the real Ferb emerges seconds later.
  • Killed Offscreen: Monogram cues in "and the turkey goes" in his song only to receive no reply, before Carl reminds him that they lost Agent T last November.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Monogram asks Carl to remind him why all the agents are animals.
  • MacGuffin Melee: Candace, Phineas, and Ferb vs Perry and Norm; the MacGuffin in question is the traffic camera disc.
  • Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat: Perry's entrance to his secret agent lair this time is into a magician's top hat, and out of another one prepared in the lair. A magician's assistant is even waiting at the lair as Monogram compliments Perry's magic act.
  • Say My Name: Phineas lets out a desperate cry of "CANDACE!!!" as he is about to fall off the bridge from Norm's oil leak.
  • Shout-Out: When Phineas sees Norm on rocket-powered skates, he says, "We're gonna need a faster bike."
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After bringing back the DVD to O.W.C.A. headquarters, Perry gets Major Monogram to clear Lawrence's traffic ticket as a favor.
