Recap / Phineas And Ferb One Good Turn

Go To

Candace and Stacy compete in Phineas and Ferb's Ultimate Obstacle Course. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz plans to humiliate his brother in front of a visiting Mayor.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: The 90º-turn-inator makes a plane heading for New York reroute to Alabama. Co-creator Dan Povenmire was raised in Mobile, and went to college there at the University of South Alabama.
  • Bilingual Bonus: During the Dance of Contrition, the mayor of Gimmelshtump moves to France and refuses to speak French. He paints the digit 9 over a sign with the word "neuf" ("nine" in French"), and exclaims "Nein!" ("No!" in German).
  • Binocular Shot: We see one from Doofenshmirtz's perspective while Roger is doing the "Dance of Contrition". It turns out that he's using his hands as makeshift binoculars, and he says that he needs to ask Norm what he did with his real binoculars.
  • Continuity Nod: The Ultimate Obstacle Course is made out of recycled parts, as Phineas puts in, from the last time they used such.
  • Covered in Mud: Candace ends up this way, but Phineas remarks it's a good thing mud is good for the skin. Later, Candace remarks how amazing her skin feels. Both remaining teams also end up in the mud at the end of the race.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Mayor Roger Doofenshmirtz has a "Dance of Contrition" team just in case he offends the Mayor of Stumblegimp.
  • Cross-Cultural Kerfluffle: In Stumblegimp, turning to the side before someone is considered insulting.
  • Day in the Limelight: The relationship between Stacy and Ginger as sisters is given more focus.
  • Don't Try This at Home: The "split an atom in a breakfast nook" segment of the Dance of Contrition features a "Dramatization: Do Not Attempt" warning.
  • Drop the Cow: Gimmelshtump and Stumblegimp engage in animal warfare catapulting things like cows and chickens on each other.
  • Eye Am Watching You: Stacy gives this to Ginger at the start of the obstacle course. Ginger assummes it's a love gesture.
  • Glove Slap: Parodied in the newsreel in the 1940s made about life in the 1600s when the Mayor of Stumblegimp takes his shoe off and slaps the Mayor of Gimmselshtump with it. Also, Mayor Chickenen slaps Doof with his sock when the inator makes Doof turn 90º to the side.
  • I Regret Nothing: Shouted by Isabella when she and Ginger are blown away by the wind.
  • List Song: The "Dance of Contrition" song lists all the steps of the Stumblegimp Dance of Contrition:
    • Place six chickens on your head
    • Eat a feather bed
    • Dance with a jelly donut down your pants
    • Write a letter to a chimpanzee
    • Paint a portrait under the sea
    • Move to France and refuse to speak French
    • Pull your shirt over your head
    • Put on dress and jump in a lake
    • Walk like a chicken
    • Eat corn in a mud puddle
    • Juggle piglets with an angry cook
    • Split an atom in a breakfast nook
    • Sit down on a bench
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Doofenshmirtz does make his brother offend the visiting Mayor but he doesn't get what he wants from it because the current Dance of Contrition isn't "nearly humiliating enough". The humiliating version he watched from the newsreel made in the 1940s hasn't been done ever since the newsreel about the 1600s was made.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: Phineas and Ferb rhythmically speak as if they're beginning a song when they realize they haven't done an obstacle course.
    Ferb: I'm filled with remorse
    That we haven't, of course
Ever thought of building an obstacle course.
Phineas: Then let's build one and make it our new tour-de-force.
Ferb: That is a plan I can clearly endorse.
    Phineas: Of course!
    Baljeet: Of course!
    Phineas: Of course!
Buford: Of course! I'm puttin' an end to this before it breaks into song! Where's Perry?
  • Noodle Incident: When describing his plan to Perry, Doof says he'll be "100% donut-pant-free! Unless, you know, something like last week happens again".
  • One-Letter Pun: In the song "Humiliating Stumblegimp Dance of Contrition" the singer is yelling about how he will not speak French, and then he paints a big red number 9 on a poster and yells "Nein!"
  • Pie in the Face: Used in the obstacle course.
  • Popcorn on the Cob: The last part of the obstacle course involves the teams rolling on a giant corn cob, which when heated up, pops into popcorn.
  • Pun: All Doofenshmirtz remembers about the visitng Mayor's name is that it has something to do with waffles. The name is eventually revealed to be "Chickenen".
Doofenshmirtz: Chicken and waffles! That's why I had "waffles" stuck in my head. That was it.
  • Running Gag: Doofenshmirtz cannot remember the name of the Mayor of Stumblegimp.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sibling Rivalry: Between Stacy and Ginger, though it turns out to be one-sided as Ginger is unaware that her sister is jealous of her.
  • Special Guest: Billy Gardell as Mayor Chickenen.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We don't know what happened to the Obstacle Course after the episode ends.
  • You Know What They Say: "Giant worms can do whatever they want!" Serves as a Brick Joke in the end.
