Recap / Phineas And Ferb Delivery Of Destiny

Go To

While Phineas and Ferb try to build a giant ride through town and Doofenshmirtz attempts to turn the Danville City Hall into juice, the plot centers around Paul, a delivery guy note  who encounters both subplots while he attempts to do his job and questions whether or not his job is fulfilling enough to him.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Long Stairway: The elevator in D.E.I. is out of order in the beginning, so Paul has to carry his package up 65 flights of stairs to Doof's penthouse. Later, the elevator is repaired, but Love Händel is unaware of that, so Paul sarcastically asks them if they have a song for it.
    Danny: Actually, we do!
Love Händel: (singing) We just climbed up sixty-five flights!
  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
    • When Paul's dad asks him offscreen if Phineas and Ferb are a little too young to be ordering 20 tons of construction material:
    Paul: Yes, yes they are.
    • Happens again when Roger asks Paul if the guys in Love Händel are with him.
  • Courier: Paul, obviously.
  • Eat the Camera: Danny during "Paul's Revelation Operetta", the song that Love Händel plays while Paul's on his special delivery.
  • Family Business: Hightail Delivery, the delivery service that Paul works for, is run by Paul's father.
  • Greek Chorus: Love Händel acts as this to Paul. Even lampshaded by the band.
He's on his way! I guess we are, too!
From a pop-metal band to a rockin' Greek chorus!
  • "I Want" Song: Parodied. Paul talks to the guys in Love Händel, telling them about how he's not sure what he wants to do for the rest of his life. He then asks the band what they want. Their response:
Love Händel: We're hungry, and we wanna eat!
    Paul: Fine.
  • Improvised Parachute: Paul uses bubble wrap as a parachute to land onto D.E.I.
  • Inopportune Voice Cracking: Carl's voice gets squeaky when he sees Carl and realizes that Agent P doesn't have his tools.
  • Insistent Terminology:
    • Paul is a Mobile Logistics Technician, not a delivery guy.
    • Irving insists that sci-fi is not "sci-fi", but "speculative fiction".
  • Lower-Deck Episode: The episode is centered around Paul, a delivery driver who had never been seen prior to this episode.
  • My Card: When Major Monogram asks Carl why the O.W.C.A. doesn't have a soundtrack band, the guys in Love Händel respond by singing, "Here's our card!".
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Because of Carl taking out his hat tools to clean and repair them (without telling anyone), Agent P was unable to get out of Doofenshmirtz's trap.
Major Monogram: Something inside me just broke.
  • Noodle Incident: From Love Händel:
Bobbi: Hey, guys! We're covered in juice and packing tape! What does that remind you of?
    Swampy: Detroit, 1984! Woo!!
  • Now You Tell Me: During Paul's first delivery to Doofenshmirtz's building, the elevator was out of order, forcing him to take the Absurdly Long Stairway. When he makes his second delivery to the building and takes the stairs again, a woman comes off the elevator telling him it had been repaired. Paul's minorly annoyed.
  • Radio Contest: Danville's radio station, WJOP, hosts a contest where the winner must spot the WJOP van and "say the phrase that pays". After Paul accidentally crashes into the WJOP van and (literally) says "The phrase that pays", he wins the contest: the band Love Händel will play music while he works at his job.
Paul: But that's impossible. I work on a truck!
  • Running Gag:
    • People complementing Paul's pen after Phineas and Ferb put a clip on it.
    • Paul accidentally leaving the blue copy of the receipt to his customers instead of the pink copy. Put to rest towards the end of the episode when he correctly hands Monogram the pink receipt.
  • Same Language Dub: Simon Pegg played the role of Paul in the UK dub. Pegg simply used his normal British accent, though his father's American accent remains. Pegg's dub is now considered lost, as only Slater's vocals are available on European streaming media.
  • Shaped Like Itself: The phrase that pays in the WJOP radio contest is literally "The phrase that pays".
  • Something We Forgot: Phineas and Ferb gave Paul a special pen with a clip on it so that he wouldn't forget it. However, at the end, he accidentally leaves it with Agent P.
  • Source Music: Love Händel provides background music for Paul, singing about what Paul is doing, events going on in the background, and occasionally expressing their own opinions.
  • Special Guest: Christian Slater as Paul the Mobile Logistics Technician.
