Recap / Phineas And Ferb Cheer Up Candace

Go To

When Candace is depressed after Jeremy cancels their date, Phineas and Ferb try to cheer her up. Meanwhile, Perry is discharged from the O.W.C.A. when Doofenshmirtz creates fake Perry the Platypus clones to frame him.

"Cheer Up Candance" contains examples of:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Major Monogram shows footage of Perry kicking a garbage can, throwing money out of a car, robbing a truck, and... eating cereal at home. Lampshaded by Monogram.
Major Monogram: I don't know what's particularly bad about this clip here.
  • Bland-Name Product: Quazmo Magazine.
  • Call-Back: Carl's poor timing seen in "Out of Toon" is brought up again, when he cries, "Why?! Why'd you do it?!" too soon.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: One of the goth girls in the Mix 'n' Mingle Machine would become Lacie, one of Vanessa's friends.
  • Flawed Prototype: Jerry the Platypus, the first of Doofenshmirtz's Perry clones, is ugly, fat, and not very bright, but Doofenshmirtz decided to keep him because he thought he looked cute.
  • Frame-Up: The subplot revolves around Perry being framed for messing up the town because of Doofenshmirtz's army of Perry the Platypus clones.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: One of the characters in the Mix 'n' Mingle Machine is Danny from Love Händel dressed in his music store uniform.
  • Groin Attack: Jerry hits Doofenshmirtz twice right under his waist with the pipe he's carrying.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Stacy suggests at the beginning that Candace should just get some ice cream. It comes full circle at the end when Candace finally goes to get some ice cream at the park and discovers that Jeremy was working extra shifts to surprise her.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: After Perry blows up Doofenshmirtz's inator and all the platypus clones, some of the debris flew directly into the Mix N' Mingler, accidentally causing the machine to spin too rapidly and launch into the sky.
  • Me's a Crowd: The Plata-Proliferator-inator creates clones of Perry.
  • Metaphorgotten: Doofenshmirtz does this when he explains the basis for his new plan:
Doofenshmirtz: You see, it occurred to me that what I should really be doing is fighting fire with fire. And by "fire", I mean "Perry the Platypus". And by "fire", I also mean "Perry the Platypus". It occurred to me while I was on fire!
  • Non-Ironic Clown: Phineas and Ferb's first attempt to cheer up Candace is by calling in a party clown to give her a makeover. It doesn't work, since the clown just ends up making her look like a clown too.
  • Noodle Incident: Candace has a great sense of humor! Remember when she got her face got caught in the sink? Phineas apparently does.
  • Oblivious Mockery: At the end of the day when Jeremy and Candace go on their date, Jeremy says he's glad that Candace is not "one of those people who freaks out just because someone cancels a date". Candace just glances aside and laughs awkwardly, casually throwing the magazine out behind her.
  • Overly Long Scream: When Candace reads a magazine article saying that breaking a date means a relationship is over, she lets out a long scream that can be heard on the other side of the world.
  • Patter Song: "Mix N' Mingle Machine" as Candace meets many people around Danville.
  • Pie in the Face: Candace is on the receiving end of one when the clown Phineas and Ferb hired arrives at her room.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The platypus clones' eyes appear normal but can turn red, which they did when the clones are ordered by Doofenshmirtz to attack Perry.
  • Rimshot: Ferb does one on the drums when Phineas says (after Baljeet's ventriloquist act), "Let's hear it for the dummy! And that puppet wasn't bad either." Another rimshot also happens when Buford throws Baljeet at Ferb's drums.
  • Rule of Three: Subverted: It took Phineas and Ferb three tries to try and cheer up Candace, and none of them worked.
  • Shout-Out:
    • "So...how about that airline food?"
      • Just to be clear, this is yet another case of Beam Me Up, Scotty!, as while Jerry Seinfeld is an observational comedian, he never started his routines with "What's the deal with...", except as a parody of other comedians who do so.
    • Buford does an act as "Broccoli Top", an obvious parody of Carrot Top, complete with the same prop comedy.
  • Speed Dating: The Mix-and-Mingle Machine is supposed to do this, but it ends up causing Candace to meet random people from throughout Danville, not someone she'd be interested in dating.
  • Talking Animal: One of the guys Candace meets in the Mix and Mingle Machine says he's being followed by a rooster. Very soon, we see the rooster who says (with Kevin Michael Richardson's James Gandolfini impression), "Yeah, I'm followin' him."
  • Tears of Joy: Monogram, after Perry destroys the Plata-Proliferator-inator and Monogram proudly reinstates Perry to the O.W.C.A..
  • Ventriloquism: Baljeet's act at the comedy club is a ventriloquist act, complete with a fully sentient dummy (voiced by Dan Povenmire) that is not amused by Baljeet's act.
