Recap / Phineas And Ferb Candaces Big Day

Go To

Candace is asked to be the bridesmaid in her aunt Tiana's wedding, and Phineas and Ferb make wild preparations which she disapproves of. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz tries to turn all the food in the Tri-State Area into junk food.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: Candace accidentally tells the cake guy she doesn't want beef, but chicken. When the cake arrives, it is a made of a variety of meats, and at the bottom has a live chicken in it.
  • Call-Back:
  • Cathartic Scream: Candace screams at her mother via phone out of anger after her head gets stuck in the mouth of one of the giant Venus flytraps for several seconds.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: When Tiana is speechless at all the weird things at the wedding, Candace braces for the inevitable, but to her surprise, she happily approves of it.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Candace freaks out over the fact that Phineas and Ferb will help her plan Aunt Tiana's wedding, saying that they'll build a wedding rocket to the moon or a "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Taffeta".
  • Doomed New Clothes: As a sign of her insanity increasing throughout the wedding planning, Candace's bridesmaid gown becomes bedraggled and her hair frizzles up.
  • Elevator Buttons Mash: When Perry arrives at Dr. Doofenshmirtz's building, Doofenshmirtz pranks Perry the Platypus by meeting him at the elevator and immediately sending him back to the lobby. Perry retaliates by riding back up on a different elevator, tricking Doof into entering the first one, then hitting the buttons for all the floors.
  • It's All About Me: Candace takes her job as wedding planner a little too seriously and seems to forget that it is supposed to be about the happy couple, not about her.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Candace briefly looks at the camera when she says, "Not you! Don't hang up!"
  • List Song: The "Wedding Adventure" song lists several adventures underway.
  • Long List: Candace gives Phineas and Ferb a lengthy list of ideas they should not use for the wedding (such as trampolines, robot groomsmen, rockets to the moon, and running of the wildebeests) that gets briefly interrupted by a cut to Doofenshmirtz and Perry's fight.
  • Literal Metaphor: When discussing Perry's mission for the day, Monogram says that the shortages of healthy food all over Danville "has Doofenshmirtz written all over it", immediately before showing a photo of Doofenshmirtz, with multiple signatures of Doof himself scribbled all over it.
Monogram: We have no idea why he signed it that many times.
  • Messy Hair: Candace's hair becomes completely disheveled as she freaks out. When Tiana sees it, she points out that her hairdo is all the rage in Montevideo.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Some of the adventures mentioned in "Wedding Adventure" are run-of-the-mill, such as chasing hamsters, baking cakes, washing a car, cracking a whip, or headbanging to music.
  • Nutritional Nightmare: Doofenshmirtz's Junk-Food-inator sprays a hot mixture of high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated coconut oil, rendering whatever food it coats incredibly unhealthy. When Doof dips healthy food into the mixture to get it to taste better, he ends up getting a Balloon Belly, pale skin, and a really bad case of acne.
  • Self-Disposing Villain: Doofenshmirtz plans to turn all the food in Danville unhealthy by spraying it with corn syrup and oil from his Junk-Food-inator while he hoards all the remaining healthy food, making everyone in the city lethargic and thus easy to control. That was the plan, until he realizes that the healthy food he had stockpiled don't taste good unless he dips them in the corn syrup and oil. In the end, he ate all the healthy food and the corn syrup and oil that fuel his Junk-Food-inator, shutting the machine down and making him too tired to fight.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Something We Forgot: Candace planned the perfect wedding, until her mother asks her where the Justice of the Peace was.
  • Special Guest: Tony Award nominee Megan Hilty (Wicked, 9 to 5, Smash) voices Aunt Tiana.
  • Subverted Catchphrase/Borrowed Catchphrase:
    • When Tiana suggests Phineas and Ferb could make wedding preparations, Phineas begins to say, "Ferb, I know what we're gonna do—", until Candace, who was looking forward to being a wedding planner, yells, "No, no, no, you don't know what you're going to do today!!"
    • Later, when Candace accepts a delivery:
Delivery Guy: Hey, aren't you a little young to be a wedding planner?
    Candace: No! No I'm not!
  • Tears of Joy: Tiana sheds them as she admits she loves all the wacky wedding preparations.
  • Wedding Episode: This episode concerns Candace planning her Aunt Tiana's wedding to Bob. Unfortunately, her plans get messed up, and she's nervous her brothers will do something ridiculous for the ceremony. However, Tiana ends up loving the ceremony and it ends with Phineas and Ferb singing a song to the newlyweds.
  • A Weighty Aesop: The press materials for this episode promoted this as such, because of the Doof and Perry subplot. After Doof dips all his health food into his inator, he gains a Balloon Belly and develops acne instantly.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Candace says she gave Tiana "the worst wedding ever" just before she reveals she actually loves the alterations.
