Recap / Phineas And Ferb Bee Day

Go To

It's Bee Day in Danville!

Linda reminisces about Candace and her old wading pool, which inspires the boys to throw an awesome wading pool party. Candace takes a quiz in a teen magazine that reveals her to be an "Emo Teen", and tries to live up to it. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz has been collecting bee pheromones in a bid to be crowned the King Bee and somehow take over the Tri-State Area.

This episode runs in time with the following episode; "Bee Story".

Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Phineas will tell us what they're going to do today right after the wipe.
  • The Cameo: Charlene appears to pick up Vanessa's headphones. She is briefly attracted to her ex-husband again, but only because of the pheromones, causing her to forget why they got divorced in the first place. Doof reminds her that it was because of his poorly made "Mr. Tomato" puppet. She leaves after the reminder.
  • Cathartic Scream: Candace screams three times into her phone (while Stacy's still on the line) when she finds out that the result of her personality quiz was "emo teen".
  • Consulting Mister Puppet: Turns out that Charlene divorced her husband over a poorly built tomato puppet.
Mr. Tomato: You know it wasn't me she didn't like.
    Doofenshmirtz: Shut up!
  • Continuity Nod:
    • This and the following episode are very similar structurally to Bubble Boys' and "Isabella And the Temple of Sap", respectively, with the second story being set against the backdrop of the first, and featuring Isabella, the Fireside Girls, and Pinky the Chihuahua in starring roles.
    • Phineas tells Isabella he would travel the four corners of the Earth for her, which he already did.
  • Daydream Surprise: Phineas gushing about how he'd do anything to help Isabella turns out to be another of Isabella's "Phineas-Land" fantasies.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Perry still wears his bee costume when entering his lair, causing the singers to call him "Agent Bee". After one of the singers clears her throat, Perry takes off his bee costume and switches it with his fedora.
  • Goth: Candace's new look and attitude are very Gloomy Goth as she tries to fit the "true self" revealed in her magazine quiz. Notably, her family is entirely supportive and Linda even fondly remembers going through a similar phase at that age.
  • Hero of Another Story: Isabella and the Fireside Girls briefly show up at the start of the episode to borrow something from Phineas, but are otherwise off on their own adventure and only show up again at the very end. Their adventures are shown in the following episode, "Bee Story".
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: When Candace expresses a major amount of ennui, her hair deflates covering her right eye becoming this.
  • Hurricane of Puns: The episode is full of bee puns, from most of the characters, but pretty much every other line out of Doofenshmirtz is a pun.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Stacy goes on the Internet to find out about emo teens. She says that they believe the world is against them, to which Candace says, "How could you say that about me?", and then goes on to say they are highly sensitive and drama queens.
    Candace: No, I'm NOT!!!
  • Pheromones: Doof's whole plan revolves around dousing himself in bee pheromones to become the king of the bees.
  • Plot Allergy: Bee Day apparently is not ideal for Major Monogram, who is allergic to pollen.
  • Poetry: Linda says she went through a similar phase as Candace when she was younger and suggests writing some poetry. Candace unintentionally starts doing so when she says, "Whatever. / I don't care. / No one gets me, / Except my hair."
    Sibling unit,
    Wading, wading.
    I sit here,
    Not relating.
  • Silent Snarker: Between the bee themed jetpack he has to use, and Doof's constant punning, Perry spends most of the episode in this mode.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: As it turns out, the reason Candace ended up with "emo teen" was because she tallied up her score wrong. Her actual personality was revealed to be "the busting and crush-obsessed older sister type, who can't do math".
Candace: (flatly) But... but... but... but... but... whatever.
  • Shout-Out: Isabella's "Phineas-Land" fantasy has Phineas portrayed in the manner of romantic novel covers featuring Fabio.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The titular song ends on a B♭ with an F♯ bass, only because it's a Bee Day tradition.
  • Speech Impediment: Doof gets his tongue swollen from a bee stinging it, giving him a lisp.
Doofenshmirtz: Curth you, Perry the Platyputh! (Beat) Curth you! Ah thaid, "Curth you, Perry the Platyputh!" (another Beat) Yeah, well, thee, you thhould be able to get it from contektht.
  • Synchronous Episode: This episode runs at the same time as the events of "Bee Story".
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Baljeet's conversation with Ginger is portrayed this way in this episode, however, in the following episode, it is revealed she only disappeared because she was transformed into a bee.
