Recap / Phineas And Ferb Aint No Kiddie Ride

Go To

Phineas and Ferb trick out the kiddie rides at the Tri-State Mart, and Candace decides to sit in one of them until Mom arrives. Trouble arises when Buford activates the ride with her still in it, and the kids have to save her. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz buys all of the aerosol cans in the Tri-State Area and makes an Ozone Deplete-Inator to burn his name into the atmosphere.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Doofenshmirtz's evil scheme (using aerosol gas to burn his name into the atmosphere) was inspired by the employees of the diner he ordered at who can't seem to get the hang of his name.
Doofenshmirtz: I just called in a to-go order for Doofenshmirtz.
Diner Worker: Hey Vic! You got an order for Doofieberg?
Doofenshmirtz: No, no, no, Doofenshmirtz! Heinz Doofenshmirtz! Surely you've heard of me?
Diner Worker: OK, order for Hans Doofen...smith? Is that right?
Doofenshmirtz: No, Doofenshmirtz! Doofen— m-my brother's the mayor.
Diner Worker: Roger Doofenshmirtz is your brother?
    Doofenshmirtz: Yes. Doofenshmirtz.
Diner Worker: And your name is...?
    Doofenshmirtz: Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
    Beat
Diner Worker: Do we have an order for a Hans Doofenblatz?
Doofenshmirtz: Grr! Mark my words, you will remember the name of Heinz Doofenshmirtz!
(storms out door, then peeks head back in)
Doofenshmirtz: Could I still get my whole wheat on rye?
Diner Worker: Sure. What's your name?
  • All for Nothing: Doof's scheme is to use the fluorocarbon in aerosol sprays to deplete the ozone layer and make people remember his name. But he then realizes that aerosol sprays no longer contain fluorocarbon and are completely harmless. See the Trivia page for more.
  • Animation Bump: The animation of Candace flying all willy-nilly on the rocket is more fluid than usual.
  • Brick Joke: Candace comes out of the store with lip gloss, commenting that she could blow up a bounce house and her lips would still be shiny. Later, Isabella comments how Candace flew through a barn "and her lips are still shiny".
  • Continuity Nod: When Ferb does a robot dance in front of two strangers to get a quarter, he's playing an instrumental version of "Phinedroids and Ferbots" from "I, Brobot".
  • Hurricane of Puns: Doofenshmirtz throws out a series of "hand" puns when he tries to attack Perry with his giant mechanical hand.
Doofenshmirtz: Hey, nice move, Perry the Platypus, I got to hand it to you! Here, let me give you a hand! Hey, hey. I'm gonna crush you with my big mechanical hand! Ha! Well, I– I guess that one was just literal.
  • Improvised Jetpack: Perry escapes Doofenshmirtz's pit trap by propelling himself upward using a couple of stray aerosol cans that Doofenshmirtz accidentally knocked over and rolled into the pit.
  • Limited Wardrobe: While clothes-shopping, Phineas and Ferb just get copies of their regular everyday wardrobe.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Carl reveals that he was born without any nostrils, to which Monogram replies that he thought Carl was joking about that on his resumé.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Phineas reflects on the little kiddie rides outside of the mall, leading to an exciting scene of young Phineas flying into space and shooting lasers off with Ferb. Cut to him riding it in reality, and then he admits that the kiddie ride isn't as much fun as it was when he was little.
Phineas: You know, in retrospect, I may have over-romanticized those memories... But I bet with a little effort, and some unstable uranium isotopes, we can make them that much fun! Ferb, I know what we're gonna—Hey, where's Perry?
  • No Snack for You: Similar to a vending machine, Baljeet tries to put a dollar into his kiddie ride to get it to start back up again... but the ride keeps ejecting the dollar bill. At the end of the episode, after Baljeet irons out the dollar bill, the machine accepts the bill, only for it to start up the ironing board. He kicks his ride in frustration, and it speeds off without him.
  • Pit Trap: Doofenshmirtz traps Perry inside a small pit that's made out of a super slick alloy and coated with non-stick cooking spray, which makes it impossible for Perry to climb his way out of.
  • Self Botched Catchphrase: Doofenshmirtz messes up his "And by unexpected, I mean completely expected!" catchphrase when Perry barges in.
Doofenshmirtz: Ah, Perry the Platypus, how predictable. And by 'predictable', I mean completely... um... dictable, I guess.
  • Shout-Out: Buford and Baljeet compete in DanceDanceRevolution at the arcade.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: A bystander sees Candace on the rocket kiddie ride crashing into his barn, and then quips, "Well, what do you know? Nostradamus was right." Later, Doofenshmirtz has the same reaction when Candace crashes into his building and destroys his giant mechanical hand ("Wow! Nostradamus was right.").
  • Street Performer: Ferb gets some spare change by doing a robot dance in silver paint and black clothes.
  • Stunned Silence: Candace when the kiddie ride operates normal and realizes it was switched.
Linda: Well...I guess it does have rocking-back-and-forth and slowness?
  • Subverted Catchphrase: At the end Linda asks Candace if she is a little old to be riding a kiddie ride, and Candace defensively says, "No! No, I'm not! Check it out!"
  • Take That!: Monogram ran out of deodorant and complains that he smells like a science fiction convention.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: When the kiddie rides get replaced with lookalikes, only the rocket gets switched before the truck leaves, with no mention of what happened to the others.
