Recap / Persona 4 Ep 3 We Are Friends Arent We

Go To

When Yukiko appears on the Midnight Channel, her best friend Chie leads the charge to rescue her. However, the police are out in force and arresting any suspicious characters - including Yu and Yosuke. When Chie goes to the station after them, she reports Yukiko as missing. But the police seem to suspect her involvement in the death of the TV hostess.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Book Ends: The first scene following the opening titles features a flashback to Yukiko & Chie's first meeting. The final scene before the credits has Chie telling Yu that same story.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • Ayane appears in the background after Yu, Chie & Yosuke leave class.
    • Kou & Daisuke appear in the same scene, with Kou trying to recruit Yu to the basketball team.
  • It's Probably Nothing: Adachi replies this to Dojima when he asked him of what did he tell Chie.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: During her appearance on the Midnight Channel, Shadow Yukiko says that she's going to wrangle a whole pack of "hot studs". She's got her lacy unmentionables are ready as well as her...heart. Given her motions towards her crotch and the hole-like symbol she makes with her hands, it pretty obvious what she was really going to say.
  • Licking the Blade: Yosuke with the fake katana.
  • Remonstrating with a Gun
  • Too Dumb to Live: Sure, Adachi. Tell the clearly worried teenage girl that the police think her friend wasn't kidnapped, but is instead laying low because she had something to do with the first murder. That'll go over well. Considering later events, it was probably intentional.
  • Villains Never Lie: Yosuke tells Chie not to get tricked by her shadow self before she attacks him, saying neither what she said is all a lie.

Yu and Yosuke get arrested

Before going to rescue Yukiko, Yosuke shows off a katana and machete to Yu by swinging them around in public (and acting like a psychopath). Despite insisting that the weapons are fake, he makes the mistake of doing this in front of a police officer, leading to both him and Yu getting arrested.

How well does it match the trope?
