Recap / Peeking Through The Fourth Wall Episode 8

Go To

This time, Lincoln has brought Leni, Luna, Lucy, and Lisa and they're going to be reading One Angry Person. As a side note, this is the first fanfiction the Louds have read that didn't come from the Loud House wiki— instead, it came from DeviantArt.

We open on fanfic Lincoln waking up... and immediately complaining about life. Yup, looks like we're in for another story where Lincoln is uncharacteristically whiny. He goes towards the bathroom to find Lori getting ready for a date with Bobby. He goes downstairs to find Lucy and somehow "senses" that she's very nervous. He asks her what's wrong and she says she doesn't know, she just thinks something terrible is going to happen.

Fanfic Lincoln decides to have breakfast, but Lynn has eaten the last waffle and when he drinks orange juice, his tongue grows long because Lisa has put one of her formulae in the juice. At least Lisa's in character! However, in character or not, this part of the story causes Luna to have a rather suggestive fantasy that involves pinning Sam to the table... We'd best move on.

Fanfic Lincoln goes to watch TV, only to get sent flying through the air due to one of Luan's pranks, through the ceiling, and into the bedroom of his two oldest sisters. Lori throws him out and into Luna and Luan's room, where Luna accidentally stage-dives onto him. He runs out, angry, and goes to change Lily's diaper. When he's done, he tries watching TV again, only to find Lana watching cartoons, so he goes upstairs to read comics in his undies, only to find an irate Lola complaining that her gown was washed improperly.

As he reads in his bedroom, fanfic Lincoln grows more mad at his sisters, while Lucy becomes more worried. At dinner, he tries to watch TV again, only for all his sisters except Lily and Lucy to start arguing with him over the remote. Fanfic Lincoln becomes enraged and yells at his sisters for giving him a rough time, ending in him calling Lori the worst sister in the world, prompting her to hit him, which hurts her hand, gets her grounded, and she's still sulking about it at bedtime.

The next morning, fanfic Lincoln is still angry and spits into Lori's mouth. Lynn, who's playing hockey with tennis balls, accidentally hits him, so he breaks her nose. He then, over the next week, hogs the bathroom to read all his comics, cuts Luna's speaker cord and smashes her guitar, puts his pool over Lana's mud puddle, pours Lisa's lab chemical down the drain (and uses the beaker for lemonade), destroys Luan's gag flower and tells her she isn't funny, uses Lola's dress to wipe up what is implied to be Charles's pee, throws darts at Leni's dress, and uses Lori's phone as a coaster and her magazine as a napkin.

Fanfic Lori still thinks it's just a phase, but Lucy (who got off lucky, along with Lily) is sad. She and the other sisters tell Lynn Sr., who tells Lori off for not laying down the law. Just then, Rita and Lucy enter, with the latter's bangs having been cut. She confesses to clogging the toilet with the Princess Pony book (yup, another fanfic which has her do that) and everyone starts shunning Lori.

Then, it's revealed that the fanfic versions of Lori and Lincoln were very close when he was a baby, but when she turned thirteen, she became distant. She makes an elaborate apology, with the other sisters joining in, involving Ace Savvy merchandise, a video game, a CD, breakfast, and a homemade costume. He finally apologises and Lucy (the real one) reveals her eyes, which are apparently very beautiful.

And so, this (rather bizarre) story ends, and the Louds go out for cookies.

This episode provides examples of

  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Fanfic Lincoln is very mean to his sisters. He yells at them, insults them, destroys their possessions, and even breaks Lynn's nose.
    • Fanfic Lori doesn't care when Lincoln is sent crashing through the ceiling, nor when Lynn's nose is broken.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While Lucy is actually a very nice little girl, she's not above fighting for the TV remote, but fanfic Lucy apparently is.
Luna: Oh, of course. All of us get in a huge fight except sweet, innocent, saintly little Lucy.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: In addition to his mean behaviour, fanfic Lincoln is very negative and, to be frank, whiny. His first line is that it's "hard to be positive" in his family, and he describes the scuffles he has with his sisters as "torture". While the real Lincoln has had his share of bad days, he loves his family and is quite optimistic.
  • Big Brother Bully:
    • Fanfic Lincoln acts like a bully towards Lisa and the twins, dumping the former's formula, blocking Lana's mud puddle, and wiping up Charles's pee with Lola's dress. He also insults all of his younger siblings except for Lucy.
    • Lori acts like a Big Sister Bully in the story, not caring about her siblings' wellbeing and hitting Lincoln (although Lincoln acts worse than her).
  • Big "WHAT?!": Leni shouts, "He WHAT?!" when fanfic Lincoln throws darts at her fanfic counterpart's dress.
  • Character Exaggeration: While Lori is pretty territorial, fanfic Lori yells at Lincoln the moment she sees him being sent through the living room ceiling/her and Leni's floor. The real Lori would probably be concerned for Lincoln, or at least confused as to how it happened.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Luna brings up the time when Lily and Lori were roommates, which happened in "Room with a Feud".
    • Lincoln remembers Lori giving him a wedgie when he questioned her about the clogged toilet ("Sleuth or Consequences") and beating Lynn with a loaf of bread ("Cheater by the Dozen").
  • Copycat Mockery:
    • The narrator says, "Needless to to say, she was ticked off," which Lisa mockingly parrots "Needless to to say, she was ticked off off." She then tries to keep mimicking the narrator, only for her siblings to interrupt.
    • When fanfic Lucy says, "Anything for you, big brother," Luna mockingly copies it.
  • Death Glare: At one point in the fic, all of Lori's siblings glare at her except Leni.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: The narrator says, "Needless to to say, she was ticked off," which Lisa mockingly parrots "Needless to to say, she was ticked off off."
  • The Diaper Change: Towards the beginning, fanfic Lincoln changes Lily's diaper.
  • Diaper Check: On the morning of the apology, Lily gets her diaper checked.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Fanfic Lincoln breaks Lynn's nose for accidentally hitting him with a tennis ball.
  • Double Standard: Everyone has to apologise to fanfic Lincoln for minorly annoying him and, in Lori's case, slapping him, but nobody expects him to apologise for yelling at, insulting, destroying the belongings of, and injuring his sisters.
  • Fandom-Specific Plot: Discussed In-Universe when Lincoln and Lucy point out that having the former act whiny and having the latter confess to clogging the toilet in fanfiction is getting old.
  • Fight for the Last Bite: Downplayed when fanfic Lincoln complains about Lynn taking the last frozen waffle.
  • Got Me Doing It: Lisa notes that her grammar has become "more worser" as a result of the story's bad grammar.
  • Go to Your Room!: Discussed when Lincoln wonders if Lori got sent to her room for hitting his fanfic self.
  • I Broke a Nail: Lori worries that she's broken a nail from hitting Lincoln.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Implied when Luna wants to use her tongue to do something that starts with pinning Sam to the table.
  • Not a Morning Person: Initially, fanfic Lori thinks Lincoln's grumpy behaviour in the morning is because he isn't a morning person.
  • Out of Character:
    • Fanfic Lincoln is petty and negative (he also says, "Oi!" which is more of an Australian expression, but that's minor compared to the other characterisation problems).
    • Fanfic Lucy seems uncharacteristically paranoid at the beginning, worrying that something terrible will happen for no apparent reason.
    • Lori wouldn't just wait for Lincoln's bratty behaviour such as spitting into her mouth and breaking Lynn's nose to blow over, which is what fanfic Lori does.
  • Plot Hole:
    • In the story, Lola blames Lincoln for washing her gown wrong, even though laundry is Lori's chore.
    • When the fanfic Loud kids are arguing over the TV, Luan and the twins join in even though they didn't have anything they wanted to watch.
  • Pun: When story Luan sends Lincoln through the ceiling, she says that her ratings are "through the roof".
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!:
    • Lisa says, "Past. Or. Present. Tense." when the story switches to past tense.
    • Fanfic Lincoln insults Lori with "YOU ARE THE WORST, SISTER, IN THE WORLD!!!!".
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: As Lisa points out, fanfic Lincoln is said to be "exited" rather than "excited" and he's said to give Lynn a "viscous" response instead of "vicious".
  • Say My Name:
    • Lisa's siblings shout, "LISA!" when she mocks the narrator.
    • In the story, Lynn Sr., and Lori's sisters barring Lucy and Lily, shout, "LORI!" for not laying down the law with Lincoln.
  • Tranquil Fury: Lucy says that she's "very upset" with Luna for implying she might not have emotions, but remains her usual stoic self.
  • Twitchy Eye: In the story, Lori's eye twitches with anger when Lincoln hogs the bathroom.
  • The Unfavorite: Fanfic Lincoln gets off scot free, while Lori gets grounded and has to apologise to him, and she's called the worst sister in the world by all her siblings.
  • Urine Trouble: Implied when fanfic Lincoln is seen wiping the floor and Charles is seen.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Apparently, as a child, the fanfic version of Lori was very kind and played with her siblings a lot, but now she's a teen, she's distant and rude.
  • You Are Grounded!: Lori gets grounded for a month (or until she apologises) for hitting Lincoln in the story.
