Recap / Patriot S1 E02 "C-19"

Go To

Back in Milwaukee, Stephen has been taken on to help John out. John once again parks in Leslie's spot, C 19, and is threatened with being fired if he does it again. Dennis has been called by Agathe to tell him he's going to get interviewed. Birdbath has John run a series of supposedly unconnected minor crimes in order to help un-disgrace him in regards to having shot a 9-year-old Puerto Rican in the back: steal the false legs of some Vietnam vets from water therapy at the Y, scare away a dog called Charlie, and then put a box in another box... in a police evidence room.

An old man in Amsterdam tries to sell his old kayak, but can't, and then tries to tie a noose with its rope. He seems successful, but is later seen to be kayaking 250km to Luxembourg for unknown reasons. In his car, that he can't get to turnover at the start, there are stacks of CDs, possibly John's.

Eddie is interrogated by Alice on how John is doing, and he refuses to tell her anything except that he's in a safe place at the moment. She begins using Tom to deliver mp3 players between her and John with messages on them.

Agathe struggles to get an interview with Dennis, as the intelligence service are now actively trying to block her entry to the States.

Cantar Walley, the one who wants to nuke Israel, is now in the lead for the Iranian spring elections. His childhood winning at Battleship tournaments in the US is also shown (but not once does he sink with C-19).

News of the deteriorating situation in Iran is the only thing on TV the whole episode, and Alice spots Tom's pen from John's new fake workplace (McMillan, Milwaukee) on the table as Tom begins to shoo them from the room as he turns it up.

Dr El-Mashad's wife is heading to Luxembourg to collect the money. John's air mattress deflates. There is a short video of Tom in 2017, describing his background to the events of May 2012. There's also a short clip of the creepy quiet one from Pitch Perfect.

The episode ends with John driving to work, listening to a sex tape Alice put on one of the mp3 players. Leslie is sat watching to see if he'll park in C 19 again. As he approaches, he brakes suddenly, because Agathe has arrived at the plant and stepped out in front of him.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Hollywood Board Games: Canter Walley is as eager to nuke Iran as he was, as a child, to sink other people's ships in Battleship. Curiously enough, whenever his younger self hits the C-19 square, he misses. This, among other instances during the episode, is a Played for Drama Title Drop.
