Recap / Parks And Recreation S 06 E 11

Go To

No longer a member of City Council, Leslie has returned to her work at the Parks Department. Though she expects everything to have remained the same, she is surprised to see how well April and Tom are doing in their jobs. When she learns that Tom has a plan for putting a lemonade stand in one of the parks, to replace the stew business that is closing, she thinks his plan won't work because he didn't use her system. She decides to make a presentation for the stew business, convincing its owner to come out of retirement, because she thinks Tom will fail. It is only after Ron calls her out on this that she messes up her presentation and sits back while Tom makes his successful presentation.

Ann and Chris decide they should be married. They go to a jewelry store to buy a ring, but they can't make up their mind whether to go through with it or not. They eventually decide to buy a locket in which they can put a picture of their child.

Ben is now City Manager. He wants his workers to think he is laid back, but he adds several new rules to make sure they understand he's the boss. April, Andy, and Donna prank him, but he threatens to punish them if they do this again. Andy convinces Ben to loosen up and prank April and Donna back, but although he agrees to it at first, he can't go through with it. His attempts to prank them do win him points with April and Donna. Donna makes clear to Ben that they prank him because he's their friend, not because they don't respect him.

Tropes

  • Bloody Hilarious: The fake blood squibs in Ben's shirt go off, spraying red liquid everywhere. April, being a Nightmare Fetishist, loves it.
  • Control Freak: Leslie is reluctant to let others take the initiative. Donna lampshades this and Ron calls her out on it.
  • Happily Married: Subverted for Ann and Chris - they are very much in love and are expecting a child, but ultimately decide not to get married since they've never really been ones for convention anyway.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Leslie refuses to just take her old job back and demands Ron interview her for it. After Ron does so and concludes that he needs to see other candidates, Leslie demands that he just give her the job.
  • Repeated Rehearsal Failure: When Ben is about to attempt to prank April and Donna, he's so nervous that his carefully rehearsed invitation to come with him turns into gibberish.
Ben: Oh, I just remembered—can I show you something out to the front area?
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Leslie returns to the parks department, only to find that her colleagues have grown and developed a lot during her time on City Council and they don't need her help like before.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: What Ron does to the Government Employee of the Month award he gets from Leslie. He cuts it to pieces with a buzzsaw, burns the pieces in a bonfire, then drives all the way to Illinois to bury the ashes. After which he salts the earth.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Ron gives Leslie a firm calling out, pointing out that she's actively sabotaging Tom because of her Control Freak tendecies. Fortunately she realises that he's right and works to fix her mistake.
