Recap / Paradise PDS 01 E 07 Police Academy

Go To

Randall tells Kevin that because he never went to Police Academy, he's not a real cop. However, it soon turns out that Randall was a credit short of graduating as well, meaning they both have to go back to school. Meanwhile, Hopson gets pranked into thinking he's dead.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Hopson has a female love interest names Esmeralda, who he parted ways with before the war.
  • Back to School: Randall has to go back to Police Academy.
  • Country Matters: Randall thinks that two in Spanish is "Puto".
Randall: Hey, Kevin. Wanna play Uno? Or how 'bout it's sequel, Puto? Puto means, "two" right?
    Kevin: No, cunt.
  • Death Is Cheap: Hopson's many deaths in this episode are not permanent.
  • Fluffy Cloud Heaven: Hopson goes to Heaven when he dies.
  • Go into the Light: Hopson, under the impression that he's dead, heads into the light, only to find out that light is the headlights of an oncoming truck, that runs him over and kills him.
  • God and Satan Are Both Jerks: Jesus Christ appears in this episode and acts like just as much, if not more, of a dick as Satan did in "Dungeons & Dragnet", shoving Hopson back down to Earth every time he dies and goes to Heaven because apparently, he didn't finish his bucket list. Jesus also knows that Hopson is trapped in a coffin and therefore has no way of doing the last thing on his bucket list.
Jesus: Hmmm, ... still didn't shit down that waterslide, huh?
Hopson: PLEASE DON'T SEND ME BACK IN!!!
Jesus: Sorry, dude. Dad's pretty strict about these kinds of things.
[Jesus pushes Hopson back to Earth]
God: Jesus! Are you pranking Hopson with that fake list again?
Jesus: Yeah, I am. [chuckles] Oh, I'm such an asshole.
  • Halloween Episode: Although it has literally nothing to do with the plot (with the exception of maybe Hopson's side plot about him being a ghost), this episode takes place around Halloween as seen by a few unimportant decorations in the background.
  • Home Porn Movie: Hancock has a video of him having sex with Mavis.
  • I See Dead People: Hopson is pranked into thinking he's a ghost and the only person not playing along with the gag is Dusty, who ends up becoming this trope.
  • Insult Backfire: Kevin tries to embarrass Hancock by showing everyone the sex tape he made with his grandma, as a way of getting helping his dad get revenge on him. However, this only embarrasses Randall and further makes him feel insulted, as he has to watch his worst enemy have sex with his mom.
Dean: You're a dirty bitch! You're a dirty, dirty bitch!
  • Interspecies Romance: Bullet has a one-night stand with a cat names Miss Whiskers.
Bullet: On an unrelated note, can a dog get feline AIDS?
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Randall uses Karen's estrogen patches by mistake and vice versa.
Karen: Yo, Randall! Let's get some wings, fuck, and watch some football!
Randall: Can't we just talk!? [runs away, crying]
Karen: What did I say? What did I say!?
  • N-Word Privileges: Hopson tells Dusty to go call Mike Tyson the N-word.
Dusty: [comes back all beaten up] Hopson, ... he really does not like being called a nincompoop.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Prop Cop, Handicop, and The Siamese Twin Cops.
  • Undeath Always Ends: Hopson dies multiple times in this episode and goes to Heaven. However, Jesus sends him back down to Earth every time he dies because "he never completed his bucket list".
  • You Are in Command Now: Bullet is left in charge of Paradise P.D., while Randall is at Police Academy.
