Go To

In Dhasam-Bul, one of Ducklair's trinkets starts giving off an alarm. However, Everett is worried about something else entirely: he fears that the past events so far could lead to disastrous results for his imminent future. Uncertain about what to do, Everett decides to break the only great taboo of the monastery and get ahold of its most treasured possession: the Book of Destiny, in which events are recorded. By writing down something on those ancient pages, the past can be modified and controlled freely. With little time to spare, Everett tries to see if he can rewrite the timeline in a more favourable way for himself. Three plots spreads before him: What if PK and Xadhoom never rescued Angus from the Evronians? What if Two had tried a different approach to obtain his long-desired freedom? And what if the project Cold Sun was not sabotaged by PK and the Raider?

  • Achilles' Heel: The Angus Soldiers have a knack for getting on their opponents' nerves and force them to release negative feelings they can feed on... but if their opponent focuses on positive thoughts, they become unable to feed and, due to their excessively fast metabolism, soon shrivel into lethargic shells of their former selves.
  • Amphibian Assault: The anti-virus in One's virtual world takes the form of a frog with a bunch of purple octopus tentacles emerging from the back and able to turn into a huge fanged beast when about to attack.
  • Body Horror: When the Angus Soldiers begin starving, they become horrorifically gaunt, their skin hang from their bodies in flaps and their muscles seemingly evaporate.
  • The Cameo: Gorthan makes a surprise appearence in the first story.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The three stories covers and recall events from all over the series.
  • Darker and Edgier: The third story. Among the various highlights, Duckburg is almost completely destroyed, PK has joined the Organization and is aiding Kronin and the Raider, leading an incursion in Time Zero, which leads to Lyla's death at the hands of Kronin.
  • Enemy Mine: In the first story, PK and Westcock's men are forced to join forces against the army of Angus Soldiers.
  • Fallen Hero: PK himself in the final what if storyline.
  • Foreshadowing: The alarm alerting Everett, which leads straight into PKN 2
  • Grand Theft Me: In the second hypothetical story, Two does this to Paperinik, trapping him in his place, as an attempt to regain his freedom.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the second story, PK is ready to have One deactivate the all energy in the building to prevent Two from getting out inside his body, even if his current conscience is at stake. Ultimately Two relents, admitting that he calculated this eventuality, but never thought PK would be really ready to do so.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: PK, upon learning that Lyla used the Othership to save the population of Duckburg from the explosion, meaning that he joined the Raider for nothing.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: In the very end, Everett is running away from the monastery, fearing the incoming future, but the sight of a lone flower in the snow gives him the hope that everything will go smoothly. Furthermore, it's implied that his last attempt to rewrite the timeline (or what's left of it) resulted in the return of Lyla in PK's time.
  • Reality Warper: The Book of Destiny can realize everything written down on the pages, letting the writer see the consequences of the new timeline.
  • Super-Soldier: In the first story, Zoster used Angus as the template for an army of Angus/Evronian super soldier mutants able to feed on negative emotions combined with Angus' talent for making people mad.
  • Tomes of Prophecy and Fate: The Book of Destiny is a forbidden tome that can be used to alter the past, letting the writer know of the consequences of their actions in advance.
  • What If?: The volume contains three stories based on hypothetical routes in the first three stories of the series.
  • You Cannot Fight Fate: Or rather, in Everett's case, all his attemtps to alter fate to make it more favorable, will result in an even worse situation.
