Sawshank's Penitentiary: three criminals, Rosto, Reo and Lotar, manage to evade through the sewers, thanks to an advanced map of Duckburg's underground. However, an accident with the drains lead to Rosto lost in the depths of the subsoil. Eight months later, a series of accident strike Duckburg from below, one by one, as Paperinik is accused of these incredible thefts and someone is plotting vengeance against a certain resident of Ducklair Tower...

• Disproportionate Retribution: After finding out that Angus was behind his arrest, Rosto decides to kidnap him and leave him tied to a grate to wait a massive tidal wave of water. He then tries to destroy the entire Duckburg by destroying the methan ducts.
• Down the Drain: Most of the adventure takes place in the sewers.
• Gory Discretion Shot: Downplayed, though then PK gets fed up with an incredibly arrogant punk who wanted to beat him up for cuttin the juice to the Underground hall, what he actually does to him isn't directly shown, only mentioned:
  Friend 1: "Quick, get his arm!"
  Friend 2: "I cannot find it!"
• Large Ham: Rosto, courtesy of eigth months spent in the darkest corners of Duckburg's Absurdly Spacious Sewer system.
• Malaproper: Lotar actually calls the hovercraft "Lovecraft"
• Mole Men: A group of homeless people living in the subsoil are encountered by the hero. Surprisingly enough, they're nice people, help him capture the bad guys and are content with living there, though they cannot stand the incredibly high volume from the Underground.
• Pac Man Fever: In-Universe, an oafish prison guard mistakes the underground maps Reo is downloading for some video game and even asks him where the monsters are.
• Red Herring: The nameless, mysterious gang seen in some interludes seems suspicious. Turns out they are good guys.
• Revenge Before Reason: Rosto is willing to go to extreme measures to take his revenge on Angus.
• Sanity Slippage: Eigth months in the darkest, dampest and most rat-infested hole of the sewers weren't healthy for Rosto's health, who goes as far as referring to the underground itself as a living beast they can and even trying to blow up Duckburg.
  Lotar: "Boss spent too much time inside and down there"
  Reo: "Yup, and now he's out of his mind!"
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Rosto tries to destroy everything with plastic explosive, Reo has enough and knock him out cold, abandoning him to his fate.
• Shout-Out: Once Rosto reveals his intention to blow up Duckburg, he dementally sing a dark reprise of A Spoonful of Sugar
  "A handful of plastic helps the whole town go boom..."
• Smart Ball: Tied up to a grate and alone in the sewers, Angus tries to get noticed by rythmically banging his feet on a nearby pipe. It works, allowing Paperinik and the underground dwellers to find and rescue him.
• Terrible Trio: Rosto is the leader of the trio, Reo is The Evil Genius and Lotar is The Brute.
• You Dirty Rat!: The sewers are infested with large rats. PK at one point is seen running away from a swarm of them, commenting that they don't get much cheese down there ^note  referring the infamous burn against haters "you don't get much girls over there, do you?". Rosto also had bad experience with them, including a surreal flashback scene showing him as a giant rat as smaller rats run over him.
