Recap / PK 2 S 2 E 8 Just A Friend

Go To

Duckburg is struck by a rising in crimes since the gangs of the city have somehow obtained some hi-tech weapons with chips coming straight from the Ducklair Electronics, stolen from cargo destinated to the Army. While Ducklair's employees have to find out who's responsible and how to keep D.E. from getting even worse bad publicity, PK investigates these gangs... and soon finds out that Stella Nice is involved and risks to lose her life in the escalating gang war.

This Issue contains examples of:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Rupert, when angered enough, takes on three though gang members... and force them to run away from him.
  • Big Eater: Spader's lunch consist in a large sandwich with three different sauces on it... and 12 donuts.
  • Boring, but Practical: Literally, while Birgit suggests a much more drastic approach to find out who's swapped the microchips, Borings' slow but methodic online search allowed him to find out the guilty party and out them quickly, with no need to halt the production and thus the income of Ducklair Electronics.
  • Break the Cutie: Stella is forced to host her criminal ex-boyfriend and obey him. It's clear from her facial expressions that she doesn't like it, but doesn't have the courage to rebel.
  • By-the-Book Cop: O'hara, Spader's partner, who also looks younger and nerdier.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Lampshaded by Juniper, who, after hearing of the gang wars, reminds her dad that PK will eventually show up to solve things.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Stella and Rupert Potomac. A minor one for Anymore Boring.
  • Domestic Abuse: Lucas makes himself home, forces Stella to feed him, do the houseworks and even jobs for him while he doesn't lift a finger himself.
  • False Friend: Fitzroy keeps fueling Rupert's paranoia over Stella, while trying to pass himself as Rupert's only reliable friend.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: The new firearms for the army shoot lasers rather than bullets.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: As Rupert points out while he's busing curb-stomping the three criminals, just because he's shy it doesn't mean he can't fight.
  • I Have Your Wife: Invoked, the boss of the Ravens (Lucas' rival) orders his men to kidnap Stella to use her as an hostage against Lucas. Too bad his men run into a furious Rupert.
  • Jerk Jock: Stella mentions that Lucas' only specialty in college was sport, and he forced her to do his homeworks. Then an injury put an end to his career and derailed his plans.
  • Just Friends: Eventually, Stella spells out to Rupert that she and Donald are this and he becomes convinced. In the end, when Donald encourages him to go and talk to Stella to support her, he says Donald can come too. After all, two friends are even better than one.
  • Megaton Punch: When fighting the to gangs, PK notices that after fighting extraterrestrial warriors and time pirates, his Extransformer would be wasted on a petty thug... he still makes an exception for Lucas and delivers a stunning and cathartic punch to his stomach.
  • Mob War: Between two Duckburg Gangs, the Rats and the Ravens. Unlike those seen in PKNA, those are more serious.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: PK attacks a meeting of criminals while they were buying the new weapons... but by doing so he ruins the police's ambush and most of the important criminals get away. This is implied to be the reason why Spader doesn't think highly of him.
  • Not What It Looks Like: When Rupert goes to Stella's house with a box of chocolate and flowers, he sees from the window Stella talking to then hugging Donald and becomes distraught... except that it was PK, and she was confessing about Lucas.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: This issue hi-lights the dynamic between the red, dynamic Birgit and the blue, almost lethargic Boring.
  • Scary Black Man: Agent Spader is a massive black cop who's quite competent and refuses to take nonsense from anyone.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Spader keeps considering Ducklair Electronics a suspect even after Everett pulled some strings to keep them away from that path, while in the end Lyla resign herself from her position in Ducklair Electronics rather than lie about their involvment in the recent crysis.
