Recap / PaPCAaMiPT Ch 3 "Pumpkin and the Potty"

Go To

This chapter establishes that Pumpkin, unlike her brother, is very keen to use her potty. The reason is because she likes to do different things, hence her starting to outgrow chewing on toys and always switching which toys she chews. However, in her excitement, she rushes things and makes mistakes, case in point the events of the day after Pound got stuck in her potty.

It starts with Pinkie Pie playing peek-a-boo with Pumpkin. She pops up with Gummy on her and pretends not to notice him, then playfully teases him. Pumpkin then has to poop, so she calls Mrs. Cake and tells her, "Potty!". So Mrs. Cake takes Pumpkin to the bathroom.

Pumpkin, excited to be using her potty, runs to use it, but something isn't right— Mrs. Cake is looking at her funny, her bottom feels dirty, and she didn't hear her poop hit the potty. To top it all off, Mrs. Cake offers to clean her up. Then, Pumpkin looks down and realises that, in her haste, she has gone while still wearing her diaper.

Pumpkin is embarrassed and frustrated, but Mrs. Cake tells her it's fine and takes her to get cleaned up.

This chapter provides examples of

  • Alliterative Title: Pumpkin and the Potty.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Pumpkin's urge to poop is said to be from having had breakfast an hour ago. In reality, food takes about six to eight hours to reach your lower intestine, and even then it's a while until it's ready to be pooped out, and that's assuming her digestion takes as long as a human's. If her digestion takes as long as a real horse's, we're talking 36-72 hours!
Mrs. Cake: "Is it potty time already?!"
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: A weird variation, where one of the signs something is amiss is Pumpkin didn't hear her poop hitting the bottom of the potty.
  • Mistakes Are Not the End of the World: Mrs. Cake tells her daughter that failing to remove her diaper is fine because "accidents happen".
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Gummy has stolen Pound's pacifier in the past, but there's a deeper truth to it that the twins know about but are keeping it a secret. It's unknown what really happened then.
  • Percussive Therapy: When Pumpkin is embarrassed and frustrated at having forgotten to take her diaper off, she wants to kick it.
  • Potty Emergency: Downplayed. While Pumpkin doesn't seem that desperate to go, Mrs. Cake does think that there's "no time to lose" when taking her to the potty. She does seem in a hurry to use it, but that's more from enthusiasm than from a severe urge.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Apparently, Mrs. Cake forgot to take her diaper off the first time she tried to use the potty as well.
  • Through a Face Full of Fur: When Pumpkin blushes, her face is described as being bright red, even though logically, you shouldn't be able to see it through her yellow fur.
