Tropes for the episode:

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Downplayed example, but even after Arif had cast Said out of the Muslims, he still has them protect him at the climactic fight in the gym.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Turns out Nat is working for Pancamo, and he suffocates Nappa in his sleep.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Keller is so threatened by Said he offers to pay O'Reily to take him out.
  • Enemy Mine: An impromptu one at the episode's end. Keller was planning to kill Said and the Muslims had cast latter out under Arif's order, but all of them end up on the same side during the gym fight in the end due to Keller and Said trying to protect Beecher from Schillinger.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: McManus is deeply hurt Glynn thinks he's capable of sexual abuse.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: When Schillinger attacks Beecher in the gym, Keller stabs Schillinger to protect Beecher.
  • Guilt Complex: Though Glynn does love Clayton, his kindness to him is partly out of guilt for getting his father killed with his recklessness.
  • Honor Before Reason: Said's refusal to Adebisi's offer of protection.
  • Kick the Dog: Mineo convinces Lopresti to throw the letter Carlo's sister wrote for him in the dump.
  • Must Make Amends: Beecher feels like he has to do something to make up for taking Vern's son away from him and offers to help him find his other son, Hank.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Adebisi furthers the tensions between the black and white inmates.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Arif tells Khan that Cramer's homosexuality represents all that is wrong with sexual desire and says Khan's victory over him will be a victory for purity.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Shirley takes a moment to tell McManus she's on his side of the lawsuit.
    • Despite falling out with him Khan, Arif and the other Muslims immediately come to defend Said from the Aryans.
    • Adebisi offers to give Said his protection.
  • It's All My Fault: Glynn admits to feeling responsible for Samuel's death.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: McManus taught Kenny to read, was the only one to believe he could be rehabilitated and consoled him after his wife's death. None of this stops Kenny from going along with Adebisi's plan to falsely accuse him of sexual assault.
  • Villainous Friendship: While Pancamo has Nappa killed to protect himself, it obviously pained him to do it and he says Nappa has been like an uncle to him.
