Lord John worries that Jamie may be considering once again siding against the King in what is sure to be an ill-fated rebellion.

Tropes

  • Blackmail: When Roger walks in on Malva and Obadiah Henderson hooking up inside the church, Malva threatens him to stay silent, or she will tell Fraser's Ridge that he kissed Amy. Roger denies this, but Malva mentions that it looks suspicious for a married man to spend more time with a widow than with his wife and child.
  • Commonality Connection: Roger absentmindedly sings a song from 1952 in front of Amy McCallum. Amy claims she’s heard it before, but Roger saves himself by saying it is a folk song from Scotland. Amy admits to missing her home in Scotland, and Roger understands what it is like to miss home.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Due to Jamie’s knowledge of the American Revolution, he decides to side with the Patriots, despite Lord John Grey’s wishes.
  • Creepy Souvenir: Jamie sees Stephen Bonnet’s testicles in a jar inside the tavern.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Malva broke off the Sin-Eater's fingers to create her love charm.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: In comparison to Brianna, Roger feels useless and does not know what to do besides work as a lay minister and help Amy with her home.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Flora admits that Prince Charles was not the leader people believe him to be. Unbeknownst to Flora, Claire knows first-hand how Prince Charles was anything but a leader.
  • Flashback Echo: During her conversation with Jocasta and Flora, Claire has a quick flashback of when she was forced to have sex with King Louis XV.
  • Giving Radio to the Romans: Brianna uses her engineering skills in the 18th century to create blueprints for indoor plumbing on Fraser's Ridge.
  • Hand on Womb: Marsali figures out that Brianna is pregnant when Brianna absentmindedly puts her hand on her belly.
  • Harmless Lady Disguise: After the Battle of Culloden, Prince Charles disguises himself as an old woman to escape Scotland.
  • Historical Domain Character: Flora MacDonald was a real person who helped Prince Charles escape Scotland after the Battle of Culloden.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Roger walks in on Malva and Obadiah Henderson hooking up inside the church.
  • It's Probably Nothing: As Jamie and Claire leave Wilmington, Claire hears someone whistling a modern tune. When Jamie asks what is wrong, Claire says it was just the wind. It turns out to be the thief who stole Flora MacDonald's jewels, who is possibly Wendigo Donner.
  • Mineral MacGuffin: A man, assumed to be Donner, is in prison after stealing Flora MacDonald's jewels to get back to the 20th century (since each transition through the time portals comes at the expense of a gemstone).
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Roger spends time repairing Amy McCallum's home since her husband died. Brianna questions Roger why he spends so much time with Amy when he is needed with his wife and son. She herself isn't jealous, but knows how it looks to an 18th century community. Later, when Roger walks in on Malva and Obadiah Henderson hooking up inside the church, Malva threatens him to stay silent, or she will tell Fraser's Ridge that he kissed Amy. Roger denies this, but Malva mentions that it looks suspicious for a married man to spend more time with a widow than with his wife and child.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Flora tells Jocasta and Claire that people mistakenly believed she and Prince Charles were romantically involved.
  • Papa Wolf: Jamie is upset with Jocasta when she bought a print shop for Fergus. He knows Fergus's life is at risk with the threat of violence in the air.
  • Rousing Speech: Flora gives one at the event to remind the colonists why they should remain loyal to Great Britain.
  • The Stoner: During Flora MacDonald's event, Jocasta’s eyes cause her pain. Claire offers her hemp to soothe her pain and relax her. While Jocasta smokes the hemp from a pipe, Claire and Flora MacDonald drink from a flask. The three women enjoy each other's company while reliving memories from their past.
  • Tar and Feathers: During the riot at the print shop, the Rebels try to throw tar on the print shop owner, Fogarty Sims. Jamie gets some on the back of his neck.
  • Trauma Button: Claire experiences PTSD when she remembers her time in Versailles when King Louis XV forced her to have sex with him. After Flora and Jocasta leave, Claire takes some ether.
