Go To

"I Would For You" is the twentieth episode of the sixth season of One Tree Hill and originally aired April 20th, 2009. The episode was written by Bryan Garcia and Chris 'CARM' Armstrong, and directed by Peter B Kowalski.

An accident threatens Peyton’s pregnancy, and Lucas struggles to pick up the pieces. Victoria approaches Brooke with a proposal, whilst Nathan and Haley are divided when an opportunity is presented to Jamie.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Peyton asks about the state of the Comet, Lucas tells her that they’d be better off buying another. The ending of the episodes reveals that Lucas intends to bring the car back to its former glory.
  • The Bus Came Back: Victoria Davis returns to Tree Hill, trying to bring Brooke back to the company.
  • Call-Back: Nathan compares Jamie being offered a place at the Oppenheimer Institute to his being offered a place at Oak Lake Academy, a situation he learned about his senior year. He even points out that one of their arguments against Jamie taking the spot is the same justification Dan had for refusing on Nathan’s behalf.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Victoria comforts Sam when she's heartbroken over Jack leaving.
  • Exact Words: Peyton and Lucas disagree over what the doctor’s instructions of "take it easy" actually entails.
  • Honor Before Reason: Lucas setting about restoring the Comet to its former glory after the crash, with Lucas even telling Peyton that it would probably be cheaper to just buy another.
  • Insult Backfire: When they disagree about Jamie attending the Oppenheimer Institute, Haley writes off Nathan’s protests about there being more to school than just education by pointing out he was a C student; Nathan retorts he was a C+ student, and Haley was his tutor.
  • Internal Reveal: Peyton’s high risk pregnancy becomes common knowledge after her car accident.
  • Long-Distance Relationship: The newly reconciled Mouth and Millicent have to do this again, due to Millie’s job in New York.
  • Opinion Flip Flop: After seeing the Oppenheimer Institute for themselves, Haley is all for Jamie moving to an environment that would nurture his learning, whilst Nathan is opposed because the school lacks any sort of physical education program and the kids are all stuck up jerks. After having a night to think about it, Haley’s opposed to uprooting Jamie from his friends and a familiar environment, whilst Nathan acknowledges that the school is a genuine opportunity for Jamie. This is naturally lampshaded the moment it happens.
  • Put on a Bus: Jack moves to Charlotte to live with a foster family.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: When Jack’s foster parents assume that Sam is his girlfriend, this is his response - though it’s because he doesn’t want to put her on the spot, and Sam freely corrects him afterwards.
  • Shipper on Deck: Jamie gives Miss Lauren some flowers, and then tells her that they're from Skills.
  • Surprise Car Crash: Peyton’s Comet is t-boned by another car running a red light; thankfully, the car hits the empty passenger side, so the car takes the brunt of the damage.
  • Surrogate Soliloquy: Done by Lucas, as he pretends to talk to Peyton’s baby bump to guilt her into taking things easy.
    Peyton: Honey, I'm fine. The baby's fine. It's mid-afternoon, I don't need a nap.
    Lucas: Wait. What’s that?
[Lucas crouches so he’s level with Peyton’s stomach]
Lucas: Yeah, the baby says it's definitely time to take a nap. Good call, baby. I agree.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Nathan and Nino. Despite Bobby instructing Nathan to bring him up to speed as a shooting guard, Nino only stops butting heads over working with Nathan when it's pointed out that if they actually work together, scouts will turn up and in turn get them called up to the NBA where they'll never have to play together again.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "I Would For You" by Jane's Addiction.
  • You Remind Me of X: After Brooke dismisses Sam's notions of love, Sam comments that Brooke sounds like Victoria.
