"Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe" is the eighth episode of Season 6 of One Tree Hill and originally aired October 27th, 2008. The episode was written by Mark Schwahn and directed by Pete Kowalski.

Lucas receives a surprising offer regarding his novel, whilst Nathan begins to make headway in his basketball comeback - although Haley has reservations. Jamie becomes enamoured by Sam and her rebellious ways, and Mouth struggles to work with his flirtatious intent. Meanwhile, Owen tries to win Brooke over once again.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Biting-the-Hand Humor:
    • When Nathan suggests Shia Labeouf play him in the "Ravens" movie and Lucas protests, Nathan jokes about the age of actors playing high school on TV - most of the high school aged characters on One Tree Hill were in their mid-20s by the end of Season 4.
    • When Brooke suggests Natalie Portman play her in the "Ravens" movie and Lucas refuses, Brooke asks if that means he'll "be getting some snot from The CW?" before acknowledging that at least their actors are hot - One Tree Hill aired on The CW since the fourth season premiere, and the network had a reputation for casting young, attractive actors in all of their shows.
  • Call-Back:
    • As he gushes over "An Unkindness of Ravens" in an attempt to sway Lucas, Julian claims to be obsessed with the book, "but not in a Peyton's stalker kind of way" - referencing the Season 4 storyline.
    • Gigi jokes about the Nathan/Brooke sex tape as she talks with Mouth about a video he's put together chronicling Nathan's comeback.
  • Discussed Trope: Nathan and Lucas briefly discuss the practice of Dawson Casting, usually invoked by TV and Film by casting adults in their twenties as high school aged characters to get around hour restrictions.
  • Dresses the Same: After Peyton compliments Sam's outfit, the teen notes that it's not too dissimilar to Peyton's.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Gigi is no longer the sweet (Albeit, lustful) girl that Mouth called basketball games with his Senior Year, but now college aged and fully aware of how attractive she is.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe" by Okkervil River.
  • Wham Shot: Peyton running into Julian at Tric, revealing they had some sort of relationship whilst Peyton was in Los Angeles - and the oblivious reaction of Lucas revealing that Julian has been lying the entire time he acted like he was only familiar with Peyton as a character in the book.
