This episode has the following tropes:

  • Alone with the Psycho: The mantis shrimp aren't really pyscho but when Barnacles and Kwazii leave to help Tweak and when Peso and Shellington leave to get the shell removing kit, the hermit crabs are left alone with the mantis shrimp, who are still arguing to the point where they break out and fight.
  • Amusing Injuries: Any time where someone crashes into another.
  • Big "NO!": Kwazii says this when the mantis shrimps fight on the controls.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Shellington lets one out after the mantis shrimp escaped.
  • Blue/Orange Contrast: The strong mantis is orange and the swift mantis shrimp is blue.
  • Calling Your Attacks: At one point, one of them yelled "Flying Claw Attack!"
  • Continuity Nod: This is the second time the Octonauts help some hermit crabs get out of their shells.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Apparently, the mantis shrimps' backstory is that they were locked in an endless battle, and they decide to end it after destroying a rock that was home to a family of worms.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Captain Barnacles decided to put the mantis shrimp in separate tanks, not knowing that they'll break out afterwards.
  • Feud Episode: The whole plot involves two mantis shrimp fighting over territory.
  • Forced to Watch: Played with. The hermit crabs that the Octonauts are tending to have to watch the mantis shrimps' stupid argument on who's the calmest, to the point where they break free.
  • Funny Background Event: When Tweak calls the captain and Kwazii over to help get one of the vegimals out, said vegimal is seen behind her trying to get out of the vents.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: When both mantis shrimp claim to be calm.
Hermit Crab 3: Maybe they don't know what the word calm means.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Crashed mid-sentence actually. When Kwazii says to the shrimp that the fighting's got to stop, Peso and Shellington crash into him.
  • Large Ham: The two mantis shrimps are BEYOND hammy.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": When the mantis shrimp accidentally tamper with the controls and when they're about to crash into the reef.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Octonauts decided to land in the spot where the two mantis shrimp live. The icing on top? They both want the Octopod as a place to live and start fighting over it.
  • Noodle Incident: This isn't the first time a Vegimal gets stuck in the kitchen vents.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When the mantis shrimp are about to break the tanks.
    • When Shellington and Peso find out that the mantis shrimps escaped.
  • Overly Long Gag: Anytime the mantis shrimp argue.
  • Rearrange the Song: The Octo-Alert theme is remixed with an electric guitar.
  • Rhymes on a Dime:
    Peso: Good grief, the reef!!
  • Rule of Three: This happens when the two shrimp mess with the controls while fighting.
(the shrimps land on the buttons)
    Kwazii: No! The controls!
(the shrimps land on another button)
Dashi: That was the button for lift-off!
(the shrimps land on another button)
Tweak: And that was the turbo button!
  • Slo-Mo Big Air: When the mantis shrimp burst into the Game Pod.
    Flying Claw Attack!
  • Split Screen: This happens when the hermit crabs watch the mantis shrimps' argument.
  • Stronger Than They Look: The orange mantis shrimp manages to break the whole ping-pong table with one punch (Keep in mind, he's tiny!).
