- Chekhov's Gag: Peso wishes that he was bigger, stronger, and faster at the beginning of the episode. Turns out his small size is needed to rescue Frank when he's trapped on the other side of the rock wall.
- Delayed Reaction: The water bears get that reaction after they realize that if they don't move, the lava will get them.Frank: Don't worry we'll be just fine... (waits for 2 seconds) Hold on did you say LAVA?!
- Height Angst: That is Peso's whole issue during the chapter. He thinks he may not be as useful as the Captain, Kwazii or Shellington, because he is the smallest of the group, including that he's not the fastest either.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Peso might not be the biggest or the fastest, but he's still tough.
