Recap / OKKO Lets Be Heroes S 2 E 32 Gar Trains Punching Judy

Go To

With a big fight coming up, Punching Judy turns to K.O. and Gar to help her prepare.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Credits: At the episode's beginning, K.O. volunteers to train Judy, bringing up the title card "K.O. Trains Punching Judy". When Judy decides to be trained by Mr. Gar instead, a new title card with "Gar" covering K.O.'s name on the previous card's art is shown.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The first focus episode for Punching Judy.
  • Hartman Hips: Mr. Gar points out that a puncher's real strength is in their legs, not their arms. It's because of her stronger lower body than her upper body that allows her to duck and weave around her sister's punches, and outlast her long after Trudy exhausts herself.
  • Glass Cannon: Trudy might be strong, but if she doesn't finish her fights quick then she'll tire quickly.
  • Mighty Glacier: Trudy might have incredible strength, but her massive upper frame is being carried around by tiny little legs. When Judy stops trying to go blow for blow with her sister and instead starts ducking and weaving around her punches, Trudy lacks the mobility to hit her and burns through her stamina in seconds.
  • Rousing Speech: Judy keeps asking Mr. Gar for encouragement, which he keeps putting off because he's not confident enough in himself. K.O. has to give a speech of his own to Mr. Gar to inspire him to give one to Judy.
  • Stylistic Self-Parody: After Punching Trudy's top-heavy frame causes her to get exhausted when forced to move around, K.O. mentions he and Mr. Gar should really start doing squats.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: The rest of Judy's family, as opposed to her Hartman Hips, have enormously muscular arms and tiny legs, even the women and her baby brother. Trudy realizes the downside to the latter, as she quickly tires when forced to move around.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Lampshaded — they talk for hours as K.O. and Punching Judy give Gar some "emotional training".
Announcer: Looks like we've got some serious family drama here. We're going to pause the competition for as long as it takes for them to get all these issues figured out.
  • Training Montage: Mr. Gar conducts multiple ones for Judy to avoid giving a Rousing Speech. Judy and K.O. return the favor by giving him some "emotional training".
  • Victory by Endurance: Mr. Gar makes Judy realize her bottom-heavy frame gives her incredible stability. She then spends most of the match evading Trudy's blows and leading her around the ring, which tires out the tiny-legged older sister so much, Judy knocks her out with one punch.
