Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E19 "Face Your Fears"

Go To

Mr. Gar goes into a machine designed to test fortitude by making you face your greatest fear. When he gets stuck, Dendy provides a way in, but that results in a daisy-chain of people each trying to face the next one's fear.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: At the end of the closing credits, a real sandwich modeled after the one from the flashback falls on the Mr. Gar and Carol cutouts.
  • Call-Back: The mysterious flashback from "We Messed Up" and "Know Your Mom" appears for a third time, Lampshaded by K.O. This time we get a little more detail about it.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In this episode, Video's Game is implied to be a Mondegreen caused by Mr. Gar being of a different generation. Later episodes show that actually is what video games are called in this universe.
  • Expy: When Dendy explains to K.O. the obstacles he will have to overcome to reach Gar's fear realm, a sword compromised of bones is shaped in a similar fashion to Exor from Super Mario RPG is seen overshadowing the end goal's platform.
  • Face Your Fears: The machine is based on making people face their fears, but no one is able to stand up to theirs; it's KO that ends up facing everyone else's fear. Mr. Gar does end up talking to Carol in real life, though.
    • Justified in Rad and Enid’s cases, as the way they’re plugged in to the machine sends them in the fear space of the person who hooked up before.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In-Universe, both Enid and Rad are freaked out when they see K.O.'s fear (an evil Shadow People version of himself), and before reabsorbing him, K.O. honestly (and cheerfully) says, "See you in my nightmares!"
  • Ocular Gushers: Rad's fear appears as a room with multiple faces. K.O. and Enid solve it by making the faces cry until their tears flood the room, allowing K.O. and Enid to reach the exit door at the top.
  • "What Do They Fear?" Episode: The machine simulates your greatest fear, all of which KO has to go through.
