Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E12 "You Are Rad"

Go To

When K.O. forgets his name tag, Rad lets him use his, resulting in everyone thinking KO is Rad. Along the way, K.O. discovers some personal things about Rad causing him to think that there's more to him than he puts off.

Tropes:

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: A pink Pterosaur greets K.O. as he flies by Gar's.
  • Battle Rapping: The final challenge of the "Rad-Off" is a rap battle.
  • Drunken Montage: Rad goes through a bunch of name tag-themed neon signs.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The M☆Elodie arcade game is the first mention of P.O.I.N.T. Prep Academy superstar Elodie.
  • Easter Eggs:
    • A poster with the likeliness of the mimic from "Do You Have Any More In The Back?" can be seen in the arcade.
    • The arcade game M☆Elodie, features Elodie as its prominent protagonist.
  • Easy Impersonation: Exaggerated where people mistake K.O. for Rad just because he's wearing Rad's name tag. Even Rad himself doesn't recognize him, thinking that he's an impostor.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When K.O. reveals Rad's softer side in their rap battle, Rad denies any of it and states, even if they are true, the "real Rad" would know better than to reveal them so soon. K.O. realizes he can finally surrender and give Rad his name tag back.
  • GIS Syndrome: When K.O. is figuratively lost in space within his imagining, a bald eagle passes through in the background.
  • Hidden Depths: K.O. walks around wearing Rad's name tag, and learns from comments by passersby that Rad likes cat calendars, babysits and does yoga. Later he does a rap about Rad doing these things, and Rad denies it, which is when K.O. realizes that he's not ready to talk about these things for now.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Just as Enid's telling K.O. that there's no way anyone else will confuse him for Rad, Bell Beefer and Mega Football Baby walk in...
Bell Beefer: Rad! We've been looking all over for you.
    Enid: ...okay, bye. (poof!)
  • Loophole Abuse: K.O. wins the first two parts of the Rad-Off by doing this unintentionally. He wins the burp race because while Rad's was louder K.O.'s was done faster. He also wins at box stacking because he does normally while Rad used his powers and Rad considers doing it by hand Mundane Made Awesome.
  • Mic Drop: After Rad's rap, he does this, but Enid lambastes him for damaging her DJ equipment.
  • Noodle Incident: This is the ninth annual Rad-Off, meaning that Rad had to prove his identity every year for the past eight years.
  • Parental Bonus: Enid's "raver" outfit includes a pacifier necklace. Pacifiers are commonly used by ecstasy users to prevent them from clenching their teeth while high, and ecstasy was very popular with "ravers" back in the 90's.
  • Springtime for Hitler: K.O. purposely throws each Rad-Off challenge, but it only makes everyone more convinced that he's like Rad. It only works when K.O. claims that his rap about Rad's secret habits was a bunch of lies to try and embarrass him.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Rad's rap at the end of the episode is how he doesn't like knitting at all.
  • The Face of the Sun: The sun's wearing sporty shade glasses, topped off with a sunny side up smile on his face.
