Recap / Numberjacks S 1 E 21 Tens Moments

Go To

Zero, One, Three, and Four are playing hide and seek in the gym, with Three being "it". However, Four doesn't hide, mistakenly thinking that they're playing Statues. Four is made "it", and Three hides behind a piece of equipment, yet gives herself away by talking to herself. Even worse, the bottom of her body is visible behind the object, so she is found easily. Three is "it" again, but she doesn't allow Four enough time to hide due to accidentally skipping nine in the counting. Before they can find Zero and One, however, the alarm sounds, so they go to the control room.

An agent reports problems with "grumpy mums". The Numberjacks point out that everyone with a mother around has had to deal with her being grumpy at least once, but then it turns out that the boy has a whole group of women yelling at him. Five is launched and lands on a door. The women are counted, and as it turns out, there are ten of them.

Agent 52 then reports another problem: a janitor at a gymnasium has suddenly gained many extra mops. Then, he puts down an apple and it too multiplies. Then, a man bowls, only for his bowling pins to right themselves as if by magic. Four and Six count all the objects affected and note that there's ten every time.

Just then, Five hears One's voice saying, "Can't find me!". As it turns out, One went outside the couch when they were playing hide and seek and is now behind a bowling pin. She bounces off, and then Zero pops out from behind another bowling pin.

He too bounces off, and Five chases them down to the park. When Zero stands next to one, a soccer ball turns into ten. The Numberjacks realise that when one and zero are next to each other, they make the number 10, so One and Zero literally make ten when they're next to each other.

Five imagines a monster growing nine other heads, the Dancing Cow turning into ten, and the sun turning into ten suns, burning everything to death. Just then, One and Zero give a woman nine extra handbags.

They make brain gain to separate One and Zero, which causes all the extra objects and people to vanish and the woman from the beginning of the episode to cheer up and hug her son.

One and Zero then stand on a wall that has ten green bottles on it. They separate, which, as the agents predicted, turns it into one green bottle. Then, they both go off to a park where some kids plan to play sports. Only trouble is, there are ten players, so One and Zero separate and make it into one player. Three makes more brain gain to keep the two youngest Numberjacks together.

Thus, the athletic kids come back and Five comes back with a drowsy One and Zero. In the control room, Six scolds the baby Numberjacks but Three points out that they were oblivious. They recap the episode, then they go back to the gym to finish playing hide and seek and Four asks the viewer to count ten body parts, then ten more.

This episode provides examples of

  • Brainy Baby: Zero, who's not even a year old yet, says a full sentence ("Can't find me!").
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Five imagines a monster growing nine other heads, the Dancing Cow turning into ten cows, and... the sun turning into ten suns, dooming all life to a fiery death.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Numberjacks separate Zero and One, but then they keep separating and making necessary tens go away.
  • Me's a Crowd: A woman gets turned into ten women, and then Five imagines the Dancing Cow turning into ten dancing cows.
  • No Antagonist: This episode's conflict is simply caused by two babies who were unwittingly causing chaos.
  • Power Incontinence: Sometimes, One and Zero make ten or turn ten into one when together or apart respectively, and sometimes they don't (as seen at the end of the episode where they're together but there's no ten being made). The pattern seems to be arbitrary, perhaps because of their young age.
  • Straying Baby: The main plot of this episode is Zero and One running off and causing unintentional havoc.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We never find out why the lady was grumpy. In fact, her dialogue couldn't even be made out.
