The team races to save Megan from Crystal Hoyle while Don deals with his actions trying to rescue Megan.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Innocuously Important Episode: As noted in the previous Recap page, this two-parter will have important ramifications for the characters, namely it plants the seeds for Don's slow-burning Character Development throughout the rest of the series.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Edgerton does this to Buck Winters. Don ends up feeling guilty for setting it up. A couple of instances over the series indicates that its Open Secret amongst L.A. office though interesting, the only concern the bureau ever officially seems to have is Don's shooting of Crystal.
  • Just Smile and Nod: When Charlie starts explaining some complicated math theories, Colby tells Edgerton to "Just nod your head and wait for the punchline."
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Unintentional as Don had no idea Crystal had an armed grenade in her hand and a crate more of them in the passenger seat when he killed her. Nonetheless the results are, predictively, explosive...
  • This Is Reality: Megan gives Crystal a reality check about her plan to kidnap her now teenage daughter, pointing out that Crystal hasn't even seen her since she was a newborn and now she wants to take her away from the only family she's ever known, and that she's planning to disrupt this girl's life to pull her into a life of robbing liquor stores with a step-father in Buck who's barely older than said daughter. This seems to get through to her as Crystal chooses to leave without her child and instead opts to go out swinging.
