The Garmatron is finished and its sinister purpose revealed. It shoots missiles of concentrated evil to corrupt ninja and allow darkness to rule. The machine must be stopped before its too late.
This episode provides examples of:
- Big "NO!": Kai after he fails to jump through the Overlord's portal to Ninjago in time.
- Bound and Gagged: Garmadon stuffs an apple into Nya's mouth prior to her possession.
- Demonic Possession: Garmadon is possessed by the Overlord once the balance has been significantly shifted.
- Downer Ending: The story doesn't end well for our main heroes. Nya has been corrupted, Garmadon's body becomes possessed by the Overlord, Lloyd breaks his leg with his "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight attempt, the villains make it into Ninjago with the Garmatron, and the Destiny's Bounty is damaged beyond repair, leaving the ninja stranded on the Dark Island. Lloyd's last words sum up this failure best."We didn't lose the battle. Today, we just lost the fight."
- Evil Is Not a Toy: Garmadon finds out the hard way that the Overlord was only using him for his own devices.
- Psycho Serum: The Overlord's Dark Matter turns people evil.
- Taking the Bullet: The Overlord's killshot on Lloyd is blocked by Dr. Julien piloting the Destiny's Bounty into the path. Julien is unharmed, but the Bounty is damaged beyond repair.
