- Deadly Upgrade: Merging with the sea, like Nyad did, is meant to be irreversible, though it grants the user great power.
- Dying Declaration of Love: Downplayed, as he is unconscious and also indoors, but Nya tells Jay that she loves him for the first time (that the audience sees), just before she merges with the sea.
- Pro-Human Transhuman: Nya becomes the ocean in order to fight against Kalmaar and protect the people of Ninjago City.
- Silence Is Golden: Nya's confession of love is not voiced; the soundtrack instead carrying the scene.
- Trapped in a Sinking Car: Despite being an Amphibious Automobile, Jay's car breaks down and he ends up inhaling a dangerous amount of water while trapped inside.
