Recap / Ninjago Mini-Movies

Go To

Following the disappearance of Lord Garmadon, the ninja enjoy a brief period of peace. Of course, this leads to some shenanigans (Nya and Kai encountering some rogue Skulkin, the ninja racing their dragons, Kruncha and Nuckal trying to steal the Golden Weapons) as well as some backstory revelations (how Lord Garmadon usurped Samukai as king of the Underworld, and the battle between Wu and Garmadon that led to the latter being banished).

Each mini-movie is about two minutes long. Chronologically, it takes place in between the pilot episodes and the first episode of season 1.

The list of mini-movies is as follows:

  1. Secrets of the Blacksmith
  2. Flight of the Dragon Ninja
  3. The New Masters of Spinjitzu
  4. An Underworldly Takeover
  5. Return to the Fire Temple
  6. Battle Between Brothers

Examples of tropes present:

  • Action Girl: Nya is shown to be able to hold her own ground against a bunch of Skulkin.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: In An Underworldly Takeover, it's revealed that Garmadon took control of the Skulkin by beating Samukai with spinjitzu.
  • Big "NO!": Wu when Garmadon fell into the Underworld.
  • Dragon Ascendant: With Garmadon in another realm and Samukai dead, the role of the Skulkin leader falls to the fourth general, Wyplash.
  • Dragon Their Feet: Wyplash never participated in the hunt for the Golden Weapons, and only takes action once the Skulkin have already lost.
  • Dual Wielding: When Wu fought Garmadon for the Golden Weapons, each of them used one of the Weapons in their hands; Garmadon had the Sword of Fire and the Nunchucks of Lightning, while Wu used the Scythe of Quakes and the Shurikens of Ice.
  • Epic Fail: Kruncha and Nuckal manage to easily steal the Golden Weapons while the Ninja are sleeping... only to be instantly overwhelmed by their sheer power, quickly causing them to decide that stealing the weapons isn't worth it.
  • My Suit Is Also Super: One of Wu's robes has wards that protect the wearer. These wards were once activated when Garmadon tried to kill Wu, drawing down a lightning bolt that electrocuted Garmadon and caused him to fall into the Underworld.
  • Prequel: An Underworldly Takeover and Battle Between Brothers are prequels to the pilot, and Battle Between Brothers is a prequel to An Underworldly Takeover because An Underworldly Takeover takes place immediately after Battle Between Brothers.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: Kruncha gets knocked into one of the dojo's machines and is smashed into pieces. When Nuckal comes around again, he's put back together.
