Recap / New Girl S 4 E 12

Go To

Schmidt: Jess, don't you know how democracy works? We need to get out there and grease palms, blackmail people. We need to send them an envelope filled with fake blood and... and a note that says... "I know."
[...]
Winston: Schmidt, you do realize you're saying this in front of a police officer.

"Shark" is the 12th episode of New Girl.

Annoyed at the nighttime noise construction going on in their neighborhood, Jess and Schmidt independently appeal to city councilwoman Fawn Moscato. However, Schmidt falls for her charms. Meanwhile, Nick and Coach are worried about Winston's new training partner.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Batman Gambit: At the city council meeting, Jess and Schmidt are on opposing sides. She tells Cece to tell Schmidt that his sleeves are off, knowing he's self-conscious about his appearance. As she predicts, he blows his speech because he's fixated on his suit.
  • Hot Men at Work: Jess invokes this when she enlists Ryan to assist her at the town hall; he plays a shirtless construction worker who is only wearing a safety vest. She refers to him as "handsome guy" throughout.
  • Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: Fawn Moscato is going to a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Fawn: Make sure [the scissors] are sharp. It's political suicide to not cut the ribbon on the first try.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Coach and Nick don't believe Winston's new partner Aly (played by the 5'4" Nasim Pedrad) can protect him because she's tiny. She proves she can when she manages to decommission them both with a couple of well-timed hits.
  • Unpleasant Animal Counterpart: Jess compares her approach to the friendly and kind dolphin, and Schmidt's to the sneaky and underhanded shark.
