After being saved from Dr. Bell by Zumbado, Naomi learns a bunch of shocking secrets about her origins.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Affably Evil: Dr. Bell continues to be pretty polite even as she has Zumbado strapped down.
  • Air-Vent Passageway: Zumbado and Naomi crawl through one at S.T.A.R. labs.
  • Alien Sky: Earth-29 had 2 moons. As Zumbado points out, that is actually a common thing, with this planet being the outlier.
  • Awful Truth: The reason Zumbado wasn't upfront with Naomi, as he thought the truth would be too much for her.
  • Bad Liar: Annabelle is really bad at finding excuses when Dee catches her in his workshop.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Naomi's birth parents were the only ones who didn't believe Zumbado betrayed the 29, something that he deeply appreciated and played a role in his watching over Naomi as she grew up.
  • Because Destiny Says So: Akira believed that this was the reason she, Zumbado and the 29 gained powers. Initially, he didn't believe it, but by the time he tells Naomi about it, he does.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Naomi, with her powers fully returned, comes back for Zumbado after the latter lets himself get captured by Dr. Bell, destroying her device.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Zumbado vs a bunch of security guards at the beginning.
  • Fantastic Racism: Zumbado and other powered people were discriminated against.
  • Flashback: Several to Zumbado's life on Earth-29, which he shows to Naomi via "Mental Teleportation." It shows him gaining his powers, his first meeting with Akira and later his falling out with her.
  • Frame-Up: Zumbado was blamed by Akira for betraying the 29 to Brutus, which he denies. Only Naomi's parents believed him.
  • Friendship Moment: Annabelle and Dee share a downplayed one at the end of the episode. While they're not exactly friends, they both appreciate that the other has Naomi's back, and Dee tells Annabelle that if she ever needs him, she knows where to find him.
  • The Ghost: Brutus is mentioned, but not seen.
  • Good All Along: Zumbado turns out to have been looking after Naomi her whole life, having been a comrade in arms with her biological parents.
  • Green Aesop: The purple meteor shower that hit Earth-29 was apparently a man-caused disaster. Naomi directly compares it to Global Warming.
  • Hope Bringer: The 29 used to be this to their world.
  • Idiot Ball:
    • Akira believed Brutus that Zumbado betrayed the 29, despite the fact that she ought to have known one was trustworthy and one very much does not seem to be.
    • Naomi comes back to Zumbado's rescue, but does not immediately destroy Dr. Bell's device, allowing it to siphon some of her energy before she attacks it.
  • Jerkass Realization: Naomi cries when she realizes how badly she treated Zumbado, despite him having protected her for her whole life.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome:
    • We don't get to see how Zumbado got away from Brutus' thugs.
    • Naomi broke back into STAR Labs and beat up multiple security guards to rescue Zumbado, but all we get is some shouting, groaning, and grunting from offscreen.
  • Oh, Crap!: Dee, when Annabelle tells him about Naomi being at S.T.A.R. labs.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Brutus, the one who started hunting down the 29. Nobody knew where he was coming from.
  • Poor Communication Kills: It turns out that Zumbado has always had Naomi's best interests at heart. He was just really bad at showing it.
  • Popcultural Osmosis Failure: Dee doesn't catch a single reference when Annabelle compares herself and Naomi to Thelma & Louise, Finneas O'Connell and Billie Eilish, and Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart, respectively.
  • The Reveal:
    • The 29 were a bunch of fellow superpowered people, including Zumbado and Akira.
    • Naomi's parents were members of the 29 and Zumbado kept an eye on her her whole life, looking after her.
  • Swapped Roles: Last episode, Zumbado came to save Naomi. This episode, after Zumbado stays behind to delay the enemies and gets captured by Dr. Bell, Naomi comes back and saves him.
  • Technicolor Fire: Fire on Earth-29 is purple.
  • Took A Level In Cynicism: Naomi notes how much of a nicer person Zumbado used to be back on Earth-29. Turns out there was a good reason for that.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Zumbado's powers awakened when a meteor shower hit his Earth and he was falling from a crane.
  • Uncertain Doom: It's unclear whether or not Dr. Bell survived the explosion of the universe-openey-thing.
  • Unreliable Expositor: Turns out Akira didn't tell Naomi the truth about Zumbado. Or rather, she herself doesn't know the truth, as she was led to believe that he was responsible for the destruction of Earth-29.
  • When He Smiles: Zumbado gives a genuinely warm at the end of the episode when talking with Naomi.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Naomi's powers start manifesting some of Zumbado's memories into reality.
