A serendipitous airing of an 'Antique Hunter' style show on TV catches both Gibbs and Ducky's attention when an item in question turns out to be the murder weapon to a 16-year-old cold case. Ducky and his graduate assistant Kasie head to NCIS to solve the cold case, while the latter aids Ducky in writing his memoirs.

- As Himself: Mick Wolf of American Pickers has a cameo in the episode as the one who bought the murder weapon.
- Establishing Character Moment: In the Cold Open, Kasie demonstrates her work ethic by turning down a sandwich in favor of finishing up helping Ducky write up the first five chapters of his autobiography, which are due in a week, and suggests that Ducky turn off the TV so he can focus on it, as well. Then when Ducky introduces her to Tim, Bishop, and Nick, she's able to tell who's who based on the details Ducky had given her beforehand, and then hugs Gibbs when he walks into the bullpen. This demonstrates her fine attention to detail and her friendliness.
- Innocuously Important Episode: For the most part, this episode was advertised as the main point being a celebrity cameo, distracting from something of far more consequence. In reality, it serves a greater and ulterior purpose. This story introduces us to Kasie, who is initially presented in the manner one would expect to see out of a one-off or as a recurring character. This is actually our viewers' initiation to her before she takes a much, much bigger role near the end of the season she's introduced in.
