Directed by Tony Wharmby

A man being investigated by the DOD disappears, only to be found months later by a lost hiker, who claims to have heard his cries for help - from beyond the grave. Opinions are mixed, some believing in the possibility of the supernatural, others firmly opposing the idea. Meanwhile, Delilah and Tim have an argument over whether to learn their baby's gender, with a shock revelation waiting for them.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gunman: "Box Guy", who was delivering files to NCIS, turns out to have been in league with a crooked businessman.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The doctor didn't want to do an ultrasound because of the risk of heating up the shrapnel in Delilah's spine, a refrence to the bombing in "Kill Chain" that paralyzed her legs.
    • The flower ordering service Tim uses for the apology flowers to Delilah is the same one Abby used when Jackson Gibbs dies of a stroke.
  • Crazy-Prepared: After the blood test is done, Delilah makes the doctor swear that he won't tell Tim what the baby's gender is as she doesn't want to know; Bishop jokes that he could hack into the doctor's computer to find out. Later, McGee and Torres decided to "find out" how "secure" the doctor's network is — and discover Delilah is one step ahead of them.
  • Dead Person Conversation: After Gibbs is taunted for secretly wishing the living could truly converse with the dead, who else would take another jab at him? His Spirit Advisor, Mike Franks.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Amber uses a gun (sans bullets) to coerce "Box Guy" into confessing and records it.
  • Hollywood Hacking: Amber is somehow able to use the tablets in the back of the psych hospital transport van (usually used to keep patients distracted and/or calm) to take out the van's steering system — and control the resulting crash so that the driver doesn't get killed by a tree branch in line with his head.
  • Joggers Find Death: Especially a jogger who subconsciously remembers being responsible for the death in question.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: The witness's interview with Sloane has her describing one of the victims, while the lights flicker in the room, to the shock of Sloane. She later tells Gibbs she wants to call an electrician.
  • Noodle Incident: When Bishop and Torres see McGee ordering apology flowers, Bishop asks him if Delilah caught him using cheat codes on Grand Theft Auto.
McGee: No. Although that was pretty bad.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The doctor didn't want to do an ultrasound because he didn't want to risk heating up the embedded shrapnel in Delilah's back, so they did a blood test to get the gender. He noticed that there was something up with the results, so he ordered an emergency ultra-sound to see if everything was fine with the baby. It turns out that there were two babies.
  • Tempting Fate: One of the reasons why Tim want to find out the gender of the baby is because it'll be easier to narrow down the baby names. By the end of the episode, they really do have to come up with one name for each gender.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Early on, Amber tells Sloane that her daughter died peacefully in her sleep. However, it's later revealed that the daughter actually fell to her death due to a faulty floor, and she had repressed the memory... along with the memories of killing two of the three people responsible for the incident and the subsequent attempts to cover it up.
  • Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: It turns out that Delilah's going to have fraternal twins.
  • Wham Line: "Delilah's fine; it's a boy. And a girl!"
