Directed by Terrence O'Hara

The team head out to a Tiger Cruise, where a decorated officer has been murdered and the killer is stuck. Unfortunately, the killer is one of hundreds of people, civilian and navy alike on board, so catching the killer becomes a race against time before the killer jumps ship and is gone in the wind. Elsewhere, McGee is debating how best to propose to Delilah.

Tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: McGee notes to Bishop how many times he has broken into her desk, formerly owned by both Kate and Ziva. He even breaks into it while she is sitting there.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When the victim's cousin actually her fiance but SOs aren't allowed on Tiger Cruises, laments about how he regrets buying her a necklace instead of a ring, McGee realizes he needs to be in the moment rather than plan things out far in advance. As a result, he ends up proposing to Delilah in the NCIS elevator.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: McGee wants to propose to Delilah in a certain place during a specific celestial event that's months away and passes his engagement ring like a hot potato to the other agents to hide so he won't reveal it by mistake. After hearing the victim-of-the-week's fiance's regrets he proposes as soon as he sees Delilah.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: In-Universe, the pop star is using her Good Will tour of the Navy to cover up an operation on her vocal chords to remove polyps. Said operation prevents her from performing, so she is touring instead of resting at home so as to not worry her fans.
  • Shout-Out: To The Lord of the Rings, where Bishop notes how Gollum-like McGee has been acting with his engagement ring, and when he asks her to keep the ring away from him until he is ready, he asks her to be 'his Frodo'.
