The team realize there is a mole within NCIS and try to uncover who it is when anyone could be a suspect.
- I Have Your Daughter: When Gibbs confronts The Mole at the end, she confesses that she was coerced into betraying the team because they have her daughter hostage, though the rest of the team trying to confirm this only pull up records that she has a sister.
- The Mole: Rooting one out is the main focus of the episode. Following some misdirection, such as Abby intentionally faking guilt so the real mole will let their guard down, it turns out to be Michelle Lee.
- Shout-Out: Tony asks if the black site contains the Ark of the Covenant.
- Unspoken Plan Guarantee: To root out The Mole, first the team constantly acts like they're against each other. When Tony gets fed up and apologizes to Ducky and Gibbs while demanding they take direct action, he learns the first part of the unspoken plan from them: it's a distraction so they could put some tracking powder on the central console...which reacts to Abby. Then, when Tim tries to interrogate her while Michelle is tasked with fetching a legal representative, Abby privately confesses to him to have been in on the second part of the plan plan since the beginning, purposely getting powder on herself so the actual mole, Michelle Lee, will think she's now in the clear and try to contact the people she's working for, allowing the team to catch her in the act.
