Recap: My Superhero Academy S02 E03 Everybody Hates Hitler

Sam: We just had a nazi crackpot from another universe attempt to kidnap one of our classmates to go all in on biological warfare

Lucy: I... I d-don't really want to encourage it, but... Th-there's little to be redeemed of them. We have to deal with them, one way o-or another.”

Remix: Red must be wrong about the evil thing, no?
Mahvash: Oh, no. He's right...'Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and Repulsion, Reason and Energy, Love and Hate are necessary to Human existence. From these contraries spring what the religious call Good & Evil. Good is the passive that obeys Reason. Evil is the active springing from Energy...I renovate and inspire renovation...but I am not unkind.
Remix: Hey if energy is evil, then sign me up for being a high-evil sort of DJ, no? If being good means always having to be obeying reason, then is it really all that... good to begin with? Sometimes being a hero means doing things that make no sense, but your blood burns hot and the energy builds up inside of you to go and be the hero.

Victoria: No...It's...it isn't me that'd be doing it. If whatever thing is in charge of my powers wants something done, it can do it itself. Maybe...just this once...It's no use...I can't do anything. I don't belong here...

Lucy: ...if you honestly feel like you're undeserving...Join the #$&%ing club and do something about it.

Mahvash: ...I was er...mostly confident that she wouldn't just walk away. Back when I first started here, I could actually count on her to be enthused about the job. She may be pissed at me for... ever. But that's inspiring. note

Hei Lin: Victoria. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you’re going to have to stop your bitching-No offence to werefolk- and deal with it. Look, wanting to be a hero under your own power is admirable and all, but right now, all I’m hearing is you complaining about your situation. Right now, your issue is [whether] you still actually want to be a hero, not whether you can become one.

Chernobog: We-We-We have borrowed the bodies of these warriors... Th-Th-Th-There is no 'Lucy' anymore. Nor 'Hei'. There is only Chernobog. Thou shalt fall before our wrath!

Sam: Oh, good...Always wanted to pummel a nazi...You know, some people would say we missed the point of this class...But, you tried to kidnap one of us, and probably are behind a near war, so, let's face it, it wasn't gonna end peacefully"

Prisoner: "Please! Why are you doing this to me? I haven't done anything wrong! Just let me go!
Nazi Doctor: [Ignoring her]: As you can see, gentlemen, the subject once again fails to grasp the reality of her situation. She still continues to resist. Why, if she had any sense, she wouldn't even question her existence in the first place. But I suppose we shouldn't except anything less. Now, this formula is truly something special. It contains samples derived from several of the more obviously inhuman subjects we have captured. Of course, we can't use it on our soldiers just yet. Not without being sure it has the intended results. For now, we must resort to lesser creatures such as those you see before you. Of course, it took quite some effort to obtain this specimen. Especially since all of her kind were wiped out on our world long ago. It was quite fortunate that they still thrive in abundance on this one.

Nazi Mook: Most of our test subjects have only been partial successes. The physical transformations are complete, but their minds become... damaged...we either lock them in the back of the facility or use them as guards. We outfit them with shock collars to keep them in line.

Mahvash: You know...All call type prayers for aid. Not too effective. Twas sheer luck that I was not already...busy. Well, you're first. Then I'll check on the people in jars.

Not!Lucy: V09SVEhMRVNTIERJU0dVU1RJTkcgRVhDVVNFIEZPUiBBIENSRUFUVVJFIApZT1VSIFZJTEUgUFJFU0VOQ0UgVEFJTlRTIFRIQVQgV0hJQ0ggSVMgUFVSRQpIT1cgREFSRSBZT1UgRVhQT1NFIFlPVVIgU0hBTUVGVUwKQUJPTUlOQVRJT04gT0YgQSBTRUxGIFRPIFVTIEFMT05HIFdJVEggWU9VUgpVTk1BS0lORyBDT1JSVVBUSU9OIEFORCBZT1VSIExVU1QgVE8gREVGSUxFClRIRSBHTE9SWSBPRiBBSFVSQSBZT1UgU0lDS0VOIE1FIFlPVSBTSUNLRU4KVVMgQUxM note

Mahvash: I have little doubt that she would have pulled that punch for Hei Lin...or Samuel..or...well not me that's the point isn't it? 'What do the others really think of you' indeed...

Lucy: Matten... Hei, just... leave me behind, okay? I c-can't fight any longer... not if I end up doing this again. I can't stand knowing that I've... that I've hurt you any more. Just... g-go be heroes, alright? It's not worth dragging me around if all I d-do is screw things up...

Mikael: After you're done treating immediate injuries, it probably would be best to get these people to Saint's Science foundation. Not that I don't trust you with them, but, uh... [Mikael wondered if there was a polite way to say 'I'm worried you'll steal their bodies and/or souls', then decided against it] They probably have better equipment for treating these people anyway. Teleporting's back up, so the other demons and I can take them there.
Mahvash: ...you don't have to pretend trust me or anything like that. I don't lock up when I'm needed. But for your sake, I'll leave you to support the ones here. And at some point go pat Lucy's head or something and tell her 'she's a good student.

Mikael: If you really want to do this, Samuel, I won't stop you. But if you don't wish it, know that I would sooner burn this forest to cinders than let you fall into their hands.

First Post: 17 May 2018

Short Synopsis: In the middle of the Deep Woods, Class One find themselves being pursued by a mysterious 'something.' And soon enough, they find themselves right in front of the Nazi advance post.
TROPES
  • Break Them by Talking: Mahvash to Victoria, because a simple 'go home and get better would not do'. note
  • Chekhov's Gun: Averted with the giant robot. No matter how much Remix and Mahvash poke at it, the thing does nothing the whole episode.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Mikael vs. Not!The Emperor. Earlier Chernobog cleans up mooks outside the base.
  • Freak Out: No more slipping. Lucy goes full Torture Technician against prisoners before turning on and attacking another student in particular. note
  • Fridge Horror: Rebecca disappeared after last appearing in the Deep Woods, running straight up to the Nazi base. Nothing has come of this though.
  • Fusion Dance: Lucy and Lin pull out this special move outside the dome and it is glorious. It also sets Lin up to be devoured in a Bad Future but details.
  • Hannibal Lecture: Mahvash to Victoria.
  • Heroic BSoD: Victoria's is so intense that she doesn't resist a Wave-Motion Gun bearing down on her and the entire class, leading directly to the above.
  • Hope Spot: A student nearly whammies a mook into sacrificing himself for Sam. Key word: nearly.
  • "I Know You Are in There Somewhere" Fight: Mahvash very poorly tries to do this with Lucy, and she still takes it personally when it inevitably fails.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Lucy and Lin have these moments throughout the episode, but while its a sign of Lin's growth, for Lucy it means something different.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: It did not happen by their hands but the Nazis must have benefited from having a few of Class One's students tied down. Not that they gained much more than time. One they did cause between the Deep Forest and Class One (and by proxy all of Earth), nearly succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.
  • Mooks: The Nazis are notable (in the context of this story) for attacking mostly with goons rather than a few elites. Yes, Conservation of Ninjutsu is in full effect.
  • People Jars: The Nazis kept several of their test subjects this way.
  • Point of Divergence: See Poor Communication Kills. Mahvash's and Lucy's ability to talk past each other is amazing in this episode, and they're terrible influences on each other here. The Empress cites the incident in this episode as the excuse for her Jumping Off the Slippery Slope.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Victoria is in too deep in her funk to notice a werewolf offering her a cure for her lycanthropy. Mahvash also doesn't bother to clear up that she didn't care about Lucy's Freak Out, not Lucy's health. This leads to a Bad Future in another timeline.
  • Soul Power: The first onscreen case of Mahvash using this to actually save people.
  • Standing Between the Enemies: Hei Lin runs in between Lucy and Mahvash.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Sam sends out a demand to surrender that, while probably proper, led directly to a standoff and nearly an inter-dimensional war. He compounds this issue when he offers himself as a sacrifice and the cats take him up on it, really escalating the crisis.
