Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E54: "The Quest of the Princess Ponies 4"

Go To

As Lavan attacks the trapped heroes, Megan and Tiffany, having crossed the Jewel Desert, arrive to the rescue. The heroes quickly grab the wands and run for it down the tunnels, while Lavan roars that he'll find them wherever they hide. Meanwhile, the crystal continues to spread and comes dangerously close to Paradise Estate. When Megan tells the others about Heart of Ponyland, the princesses recall a legend saying that it's a talisman far beneath Lavan's kingdom, and the source from which their wands draw their power. The heroes decide to find it and use it to recharge the wands.

The lava demon guards, meanwhile, are having no luck in finding heroes. After blasting them around a bit, Lavan decides that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself and sets off to find the troublesome escapees on his own.

The heroes slog deeper into the underground passages beneath Lavan's realm, and eventually reach the cave where the Heart of Ponyland — a large, many-colored gem — rests. The princesses recall that they need to place wands in the six crowns lying on the crystal to restore their magic, but Lavan arrives before they can do this and scatters them with his powerful attacks. The heroes are soon left huddling behind rocks, where Lavan can pick them off at his leisure.

Back at Paradise Estate, Wind Whistler is trapped by a falling piece of crystal while doing reconnaissance, and is left stuck dangerously close to the advancing front of crystallization.

In the Heart's cave, Princess Primrose decides to distract Lavan so that Sludge and the bushwoolies can catch him unaware and steal the wands. The heroes run for the Heart, while G'nash tries to hold Lavan back while they recharge the wands. Lavan quickly breaks free of G'nash's ice and attacks, but the ice orc has bought the princesses enough time to recharge the wands enough to allow them to reflect Lavan's attack back at him. The rainbow beam, sent back to sender, shatters Lavan into a hail of crystal shards and puts an end to his ambitions.

After Lavan's death, the princesses use the magic of their wands to restore Ponyland's magical balance. The land is soon restored to its previous idyllic state, although even the wands' magic cannot seem to restore the Moochick's broken armchair. The Princess Ponies knight the bushwoolies and charge them with guarding the crowns, before using their magic to lift themselves, the 'woolies, Megan and Spike up away. G'nash and Sludge wave them goodbye, inviting them to come back anytime to visit the ice orcs and lava demons' new unified kingdom.

On the surface, Lavan's defeat and the world not ending are fine cause for celebration, and the princesses decide to put paid to the queen thing by taking turns as monarchs. Spike and Megan, meanwhile, bemoan the bushwooly and locket lost to desert... until the first arrives while carrying the second, tiredly announces that he's bushed, and helps himself to the party food while everyone laughs.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Big "NO!": Lavan lets out two loud "nooooo!"s when he sees his attack reflected from the Princess Ponies and heading back towards him, right before he's blown to pieces.
  • Everyone Laughs Ending: The episode ends with everyone having a good laugh once the bushwooly who got lost in the desert arrives, hands over the locket, and starts chowing down on the party food.
  • Instant Ice: Just Add Cold!: G'nash's Hand Blast instantly encases Lavan in a giant block of ice the moment it hits him.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Lavan is blown to bits when his attack is reflected back at him.
  • Power Crystal: The Heart of Ponyland is revealed to be a large multicolored crystal from which all of Ponyland's magic originates.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: When Princess Primrose decides to fight back against Lavan, she tells Sludge that she'll distract him, after which he plan is rendered as unintelligible whispering. The rest turns out to consist of Sludge shooting fire beams at his feet to unbalance him and make him fall and for the bushwoolies to steal the dropped wands, and sure enough it works.
  • World-Healing Wave: Once the princesses have their wands back, they use their magic to create a rainbow wave that undoes the magic that Lavan's power grab causes to Ponyland. Besides reversing the crystallization of the landscape, it also generally fixes everything left damaged and disordered by the ensuing chaos... except for the Moochick's armchair, which stays broken.
