Recap / My Little Pony 'n Friends E25: "Sweet Stuff and the Treasure Hunt"

Go To

Sweet Stuff is bored and wants to play a game, but all her attempts meet with failure. She tries to play tag with the bushwoolies, but they all run off before she can finish explaining the rules. A squirrel angrily berates her for happening to have her hoof on top of an acorn, and blows off her attempts to make friends. She tries to play hide-and-seek with the unicorns, but their ability teleport makes it very difficult to keep up with them and impossible to beat them to the safe zone. The same squirrel from before giving her away with another angry rant when she happens to lay on top on another acorn doesn't much help, either. She then comes across the sea ponies, who are wearing life preservers for some reason, and is invited to join a game of cricket they're playing. She's happy to join until she realizes they mean to use her as a goalpost to whack their ball at.

She goes back to Paradise Estate, and Megan invites her to join a treasure hunt that just got underway. Most treasures are straightforward enough, but one — something that's one thing even when it's many — is a bit cryptic. Sweet Stuff is partnered with Whizzer, but can't keep up with the speedy pegasus and doesn't contribute much. Dejected, she tells Whizzer to just go on without her.

As Sweet Stuff bemoans her lot in life, she comes across the bushwoolies again, who have somehow managed to get themselves hung by a clothesline in the woods. She tries to get them to drop off one by one, since there are too many to catch at once, but it turns out that bushwoolies aren't that good at grasping individuality as a concept. She instead places a large branch beneath them and tells them to all drop off at once, which works a lot better.

Sweet Stuff realizes that the bushwoolies must be the answer to the scavenger hunt's riddle. She returns with them to Paradise Estate just before the hunt ends and, since Whizzer already got everything else and nobody else worked the riddle out, wins the contest. Everyone celebrates with ice cream and the episode ends with a song about valuing yourself for yourself.

This episode provides examples of:

  • An Aesop: Everyone is special in their own way, and you shouldn't be ashamed of not having someone else's talents or doing things in a different manner.
  • Breather Episode: This episode provides a break between the previous arc's confrontation with kidnappers and a soul-stealing cloud demon and the upcoming invasion by an evil wizard who will almost conquer all of Dream Valley, without itself raising stakes any higher than some issues of self-worth and friendly competition.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Some of the characters act a little meaner in this particular episode, but baby seaponies especially stand out by inviting Sweet Stuff to their water polo game only to use her as a goal post.
