"Roaring Upheaval" is the sixth episode of My Hero Academia's third season, and the 44th episode overall.

Midoriya and Shoji lead the rampaging Dark Shadow to Bakugo and Todoroki, who are able to calm it down, restoring Tokoyami's control. The four of them plan to cut across the training grounds and deliver Bakugo back to the camp. Meanwhile, Asui and Uraraka are facing Toga, who taunts Uraraka for her crush on Midoriya. This distracts Uraraka long enough for Toga to get a sample of her blood, but they are interrupted by the arrival of Shoji and the others. Mr. Compress snatches Bakugo and Tokoyami and manages to escape, recalling the rest of the League. Yaoyorozu has Awase attach a tracking chip to the Nomu that had been chasing them up to that point. In an attempt to retrieve their kidnapped classmates, Midoriya asks Uraraka and Asui to launch them onto Compress.

Tropes present in this episode:

  • By the Hair: Toga immobilizes Tsuyu by tacking the knot in her long hair to a tree.
  • Chekhov's Classroom: Gunhead's martial arts training kicks in again during Uraraka's fight against Toga.
  • Close-Call Haircut: Uraraka is on the receiving end of one from Toga's knife.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Moonfish is absolutely trashed by an out-of-control Dark Shadow.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Tsuyu states that only her friends can call her "Tsu", if she allows it. She doesn't want the insane Yandere villain Toga to do the same.
  • Evil Gloating: Compress can't resist bragging to the students about how he'd captured their friends. This works to his detriment.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The boys do not even realize that Bakugo and Tokoyami have been kidnapped by Mr. Compress until Tsuyu points this out.
  • Fastball Special: Uraraka and Asui's combined use of their Quirks is for this, allowing Midoriya and the others to intercept Compress.
  • The Load: Literally. Tsuburaba from 1-B is unconscious, and lugged around by Todoroki and Uraraka throughout the episode.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Toga suspects she and Uraraka have a person they are fighting for and goes on a twisted praise about how far they would go to impress them. Naturally, Uraraka freaks over the insinuation, allowing Toga to take some of her blood.
  • Sensing You Are Outmatched: Compress knows he can't go up against the group of UA students, and bows out because he already has Bakugo anyway. Likewise, Toga withdraws once Tsuyu and Uraraka get backup from Todoroki and the others.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: Done in two ways. Izuku and Shoji know they can't take on Dark Shadow alone and lead him to Bakugo and Todoroki, making them the bigger fish. Dark Shadow itself plays the bigger fish to Moonfish, who has Bakugo and Todoroki on the defensive.
  • Take a Third Option: When faced with a choice between staying with Shoji to deal with Dark Shadow or to leave him to search for Bakugo, Midoriya refuses to abandon anybody. Instead, he has Shoji lead Dark Shadow to Bakugo, solving both problems while taking down Moonfish.
  • Traitor Shot: After Mr. Compress abducts Bakugo and Tokoyami, as Twice and Dabi have a brief discussion, the camera pans and focuses on Aoyama for a while, who is watching over the now unconscious Jiro and Hagakure. On first viewing, it seems Aoyama is being his Cowardly Lion self, as in the next episode, he redeems himself by shooting his naval laser at Mr. Compress, allowing Shoji to rescue Tokoyami. But many arcs later, it is revealed that Aoyama was the traitor who had been passing on information to All For One all along.
  • The Unreveal: Toga has a device that allows her to extract blood from her victims. However, it is not known what she needs it for as of this episode. She does manage to get some of Uraraka's blood while distracted.
  • Villainous Rescue: Of the coincidental variety. The League's Nomu is recalled just as it's about to attack Yaoyorozu and Awase, who otherwise wouldn't have stood a chance.
  • We Could Have Avoided All This: Compress can't help but gloat about capturing Bakugo and Tokoyami because he's a showman, after managing to do so completely undetected. This ill-advised act of hubris reveals his presence to Midoriya, Shoji, and Todoroki, and they are made wise to his plan to sneak away into the night, when not saying or doing anything to give himself away would have made it far easier to complete his mission as the students struggled to figure out what in the world happened to their missing friends. Todoroki even calls him out on being so overconfident. Compress later pays for his indiscretion when he is summarily dive-bombed by all three Class A students at once.
