Recap / My Daemon S 1 E 5 The Collector

Go To

While Kento and Kaede travel through Nagoya, an aircraft crash-lands nearby, and a giant, spider-like daemon suddenly begins rampaging the area.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Berserk Button: Breaking or stealing its collection are a good way to piss a spider Daemon off.
  • Bonding over Missing Parents: Despite her initial dislike of him, Momoka clearly empathizes with Kento when he tells her about his own mother's death and his goal to find a time daemon to resurrect her, though she's skeptical that this is possible.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Momoka spends a lot of the episode whining, complaining, and making cruel comments toward Anna, whom she hates for being a daemon. Somewhat justified in that she is a child forcibly separated from her parent and trapped in the lair of a gigantic monster, an understandably stressful situation that she doesn't know how to handle more maturely.
  • Chromatic Arrangement: The mercenary daemon user trio, consisting of Sawatari (red), Hayami (blue) and Hiruta (yellow).
  • Collector of the Strange: Spider Daemons are known to collect anything that catches their fancy. In Ohm’s case, it collects even buildings.
  • Fantastic Racism: Momoka is very vocal about how she hates all daemons. This stems from her mother having had a daemonium particle implanted in her heart which killed her when it hatched, causing the young girl to latch onto daemons as something to blame in her grief.
  • The Load: Momoka. Contrasting with Kento who has been on his own for a while and is more worldly and willing to take initiative, she has practically no survival skills, responds to the stress of the situation by whining, and accidentally causes the Disaster Dominoes that lead to Ohm discovering them.
  • Never My Fault: After her playing around with Anna's storage abilities results in Disaster Dominoes that alert Ohm to their presence, Momoka exclaims multiple times that "There's no way this is my fault!" (In a tone that implies she is fully aware of whose fault it was.)
  • Shear Menace: One of the Daemon experts has a daemon that is essentially a walking pair of scissors.
