Murdoch investigates the death of a landowner found hanging from a tree, and discovers tracks nearby in the shape of no human feet. When crop circles are also discovered, our hero must consider whether the murderers were aliens.
Tropes:
- Aliens Steal Cattle: Lots of leads point to strange creatures who are unlike humans. They appear to have mutilated at least one cow.
- Area 51: The case occurs in the area of "Concession 51". At the end of the episode, the team discusses that the deserts of western America would be better for such projects than an area relatively close to city.
- Body In A Bread Box: A body is found in a tree with no tracks in the freshly-tilled field around it. Constable Crabtree, resident Agent Mulder, concludes that Martians did it.
- Crop Circles: Five crop circles appear in a cornfield.
- It Was Here, I Swear!: Murdoch and Crabtree, when they bring Brackenreid and Julia to where the airship and its crew was.
- Poor Communication Kills: Government agents mistook the victim, an alien-obsessed French Canadian, for a French spy, and took him prisoner to question in the airship; he thought he was being abducted by aliens, freaked out and leapt from it to his death.
