Intrigue abounds in sunny California when Jessica's niece, Victoria, is accused of the murder of a rich movie heiress in Beverly Hills.


Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if Hastings is meant to be the father of Deborah's son Kevin or not.
  • Better Manhandle the Murder Weapon: Jessica's niece Victoria finds herself alone in a house with a dead body. Hearing someone coming, she picks up a fireplace poker to defend herself. Unfortunately, the poker turns out to be the murder weapon and she is holding it when the police arrive.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The diet pills play a vital role in the murder plot.
  • Gag Haircut: Lt. Percy Redick has a bowlcut that makes him look even more unlikable.
  • Gold Digger: Arnold Hastings married Deborah Tarkington in order to get an in to her father's movie company and then divorced her.
  • Executive Meddling: In-Universe with how Howard loses his job. Initially, his character was to end up becoming ill but eventually recover, but some changes to the script were made so that instead, his character was killed off, much to his dismay.
  • Happy Ending Override: Last time we saw him, Howard's acting career was on the upswing. In the first few minutes of this episode, he loses his acting role yet again and is struggling yet again.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: When Kevin is coming on to Victoria, he notes that Victoria is the kind of woman that can move a nice piece of....... property.
  • The Other Darrin: Victoria's husband, Howard, is now played by Dean Butler. He was previously played by Jeff Conaway.
  • Running Gag: Howard and Victoria continue to kiss ever so passionately in front of Jessica, making her uncomfortable.
  • Shady Real Estate Agent: The husband and wife couple trying to sell Deborah's house in a way she didn't approve of both before and after her death.
