Baseball Bogus

Written by Tony Marino

First Act

At the baseball stadium, Tommy's team is doing some practice rounds for a big game later in the afternoon. Mr. Anybody suddenly runs up to Tommy while making like a cheerleader, waving some pom-poms. Tommy tells Mr. Anybody that he's embarrassing him just as Mr. Anybody starts doing a rather embarrassing cheer routine, which causes Tommy to put his hands to his face in embarrassment. The other kids on the team start teasing and jeering Tommy for his dad making a spectacle of himself. After that's over, Mr. Anybody starts to walk back towards the dugout when he suddenly trips and falls into the dugout, as the other players pick him up. Bogus suddenly emerges from under Tommy's baseball cap as he states that he's ready for the big game to start. Tommy is not too sure if Mr. Anybody will do good in the game or not, but Bogus assures him that everything will be okay before he lands on the ground afterwards, followed soon after by Brattus, who was also hiding in Tommy's baseball cap. The umpire then tells all the players to take their places as the game is ready to begin.

Mr. Anybody is the first one up to bat, but the other team starts jeering him, because he is holding the bat the wrong way. The umpire tells Mr. Anybody that he's holding the bat all wrong, then turns the bat around so that he's holding it right. Mr. Anybody thanks the umpire for the correction. Bogus and Brattus watch the whole thing as Bogus whips out a magician's hat and a magic wand from his pocket, as he states that he's going to help Mr. Anybody. Tommy prepares the windup, just as Bogus does the same with the wand, just as Tommy throws the ball and Bogus zaps the ball, which turns it into a Curveball, which Mr. Anybody barely manages to hit, causing him to start spinning uncontrollably. At the same time when that happens, Bogus and Brattus are celebrating. The ball suddenly hits Bogus, sending him flying up into the air and directly out into space, before being caught by the man in the moon, who throws both Bogus and the ball back down to Earth. Bogus then manages to control the ball like an airplane before landing back on the ground once again and back into the game. A couple of Dirt Dudes (also wearing baseball attire) show up and bring Bogus back into the game afterwards.

The game has resumed just as a Flyball heads towards Mr. Anybody, but he misses the catch then winds up falling to the ground after slipping on the ball. Tommy's team starts laughing at Mr. Anybody after that, while Tommy asks for Bogus to see if he can help Mr. Anybody do better in the next round. Bogus then makes himself as buff and tough as can be as he rushes out to get ready for the next round of the game. Mr. Anybody's team is batting again as Mr. Anybody is up to bat once again. Tommy still has doubts about his dad standing a chance up to bat, but throws a Slowball anyway, which Mr. Anybody surprisingly manages to hit, as the ball sails into the air, but Bogus pushes the outside wall forward just as the ball lands outside the wall. Mr. Anybody is ecstatic about finally hitting a home run that he jumps up and lands into the umpire's arms. The umpire then states that he misjudged Mr. Anybody as Tommy thinks the same too. Later, the game has ended as Mr. Anybody and Tommy start heading for home. Bogus peeks out from under Tommy's cap again as Tommy congratulates Bogus for helping his dad out. Bogus, Brattus, and Tommy then start having a good laugh after that.

Tropes found in Baseball Bogus:

  • Baseball Episode: Self-explanatory
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The first act ends with Bogus, Brattus, and Tommy sharing a laugh.
  • Face Palm: Tommy does this in response to his dad's embarrassing cheer routine.
  • Happy Dance: Bogus and Brattus do this during the game, after Mr. Anybody makes the first hit.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: Even in spite of being a hopeless cause in the game, Mr. Anybody surprisingly does manage to surprise even Tommy when up to bat, though it is subverted that it was actually Bogus who was helping him out.
