Original air date: 3/4/23 (TV), 3/8/23 (Disney+)

Production code: 110

An overworked Lunella fakes an injury to get out of her Moon Girl duties for the day, forcing Casey to take over for her.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: You shouldn’t be afraid to tell the people who love you what you need.
  • Boredom Montage: The episode opens on a montage of Lunella's daily routine of going to school, fighting crime, greeting fans and working on experiments. It then repeats three more times, with Lunella getting more and more tired each time.
  • Broken Pedestal: Played for laughs; Casey filling in as Moon Girl signed a tough looking biker's nail-studded baseball bat. Later in her fight with Abyss, a misfire of the bubble gun accidentally entraps him, leading him to tearfully break his signed bat in half while looking at her as if he were betrayed.
  • Call-Back:
    • While trying out her Moon Girl outfit, Casey and Dino strike a similar pose Lunella and Devil struck in the first episode.
    • At one point, Mimi asks if Lunella invented a mind reading device. This prompts a flashback to “Goodnight, Moon Girl" where she did, but it caused her and Devil to switch bodies.
  • The Cameo: Instantanegirl, Devos, and Stiletto appear in the opening montage.
  • Cat Up a Tree: Abyss sets a trap for Moon Girl by pretending that her cat got stuck on a tree (it's actually an inflatable cat). She actually gets Casey acting as Moon Girl.
  • Company Cross References:
    • At one point in the photo shoot, Casey is photographed in front of a backdrop of an Incan village riding a llama with the same color palate as Kuzco.
    • Another scene in the shoot mimics the climax of Sleeping Beauty, with a background of green flames, "Moon Girl" wielding a sword, and Devil wearing wings to look like the transformed Maleficent.
    • Yet another scene in the shoot has them dress like Indiana Jones, including whip.
    • A fourth one is set on a New Orleans-inspired boat, with a lot of frogs and Devil playing a trumpet, referencing The Princess and the Frog.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Inspired by Lunella and Casey’s reconciliation, Abyss finds the courage to call her mother and tell her she doesn’t want to be a supervillainess anymore.
  • Injured Limb Episode: Lunella fakes an ankle break to get out of her duty as Moon Girl and get in some "Me Time." Later in the episode, she actually does break her ankle.
  • Karmic Nod: After pretending to have a broken ankle, Lunella actually breaks her ankle and proclaims...
Lunella: Ow! The bitter pain of karmic justice!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After faking a broken ankle, Lunella actually breaks her ankle heading to rescue Casey from Abyss.
  • Legacy Character: "Abyss" is a title that has been passed down among five generations of supervillains, although the current holder doesn't care for it.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Feeling overworked between school and superheroing, Lunella fakes a twisted ankle to get out of an all-day photoshoot arranged by Casey. The disability goes from obfuscating to painfully real about halfway through.
  • Pass the Popcorn: After the Beyonder explains Abyss' backstory, he tells the audience "You stay and watch; I'll get the popcorn."
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tranquil Fury: Mimi warns Lunella to not ring her service bell in a calm, straightforward manner after getting fed up with granting the latter's many requests.
Mimi: Ring it again. I dare you.
  • X-Ray of Pain: As Moon Girl’s skates get caught on a grate, an X-ray view shows her ankle getting dislocated.
