Go To

After Laugh power gains more popularity, Jack and Jill and their news crew visit Monsters, Inc. but someone vandalized Laugh Floor F.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: After all the trouble to prevent Jack and Jill from seeing the vandalism, Mike accidentally reveals it all.
  • Cassandra Truth: Nobody believes Tylor that he was framed. Even Val who's unsure.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Running Gag of Mike being blocked out whenever he appears on TV or on print reappears, as he's covered up by the I Scream, U Scream logo.
    • Once again, Mike tries to pass up an overheard comment as being from the company play.
    • Adorable is still selling his snow cones.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Just as it seems they're in the clear, Mike leans on a stool and accidentally, knocks over a canister, which topples a whole chain of them, the last one blasting off and ricocheting all over the laugh floor, eventually knocking over the doors covering up the graffiti, exposing them for the cameras.
  • Downer Ending: Just as Monsters, Inc. was winning over monsters with laugh power, their newfound popularity becomes ruined when the vandalized Floor F gets revealed by a Disaster Dominoes effect that was accidently caused by Mike. As they try to cover up the story to Jack and Jill, Tylor and Val come to the scene as the former inadvertently exposes Roger as Waternoose's son and the saboteur, not realizing that they were on live TV until it was too late. Later on, a displeased Sulley and Mike scold Tylor for his actions as they already knew about Roger's familial connections from the beginning. This causes Tylor to angrily accuse Sulley of being too trusting. The situation becomes worse when Duncan and Cutter reveal that they found missing objects and spray-paint inside Tylor's locker. Tylor tries to explain himself, but Duncan shows everyone the Fear Co. coffee cup with Tylor's name, forcing the former to reveal his past interactions with Johnny. This causes everyone present, including Sulley, Mike, and even Val, to lose their trust and respect for Tylor, who then resigns from Monsters, Inc. and calls Johnny.
  • Frame-Up: Someone sets Tylor up as the saboteur by planting items in his locker such as the master key, Mike's lucky baseball mitt, and Boo's drawing of her and Sulley, which makes him seem guilty.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Tylor, convinced Roger's the saboteur, calls Sulley out for trusting him. Once The Reveal comes out that Roger is not the one behind the crimes, Sulley says this word for word as he turns it back onto Tylor before he tries to have Val back him up.
Tylor: Come on, Sulley. You can't be this bad at judge of character.
  • Internal Reveal: Everyone outside of Val finds out Tylor had dinner with Johnny and went to Fear Co.
  • Kick the Dog: Duncan made it very clear he enjoyed every moment of Tylor's firing acting like revealing him to be the suspected traitor his crowning achievement.
  • Nom de Mom: Subverted. Roger Rogers' mother is Wendy Rogers Waternoose but "Roger Rogers" is a fake name and his real one is Henry J. Waternoose IV.
  • Red Herring: For the whole season, Roger has been hinted to be the saboteur, taking photos constantly and knowing the ins and outs of how the company works. When the laugh floor is vandalized, Tylor and Val spot Roger fretting about having spray paint on his hands and talking to someone on the phone about not wanting anything to do with them anymore. But the clincher is when Tylor looks at Roger's personal file and discovers that his real name is Henry J. Waternoose IV. However, Sulley already knew this, and assured everyone that he is nothing like his father (who was the one on the phone), and that the photos were for a collage for Mike to remember everyone's names. Instead, everyone starts to suspect Tylor when Duncan presents incriminating evidence found on his workstation, particularly the master key and the FearCo coffee cup.
  • The Reveal: Roger Rogers is actually Henry J. Waternoose III's son Henry J. Waternoose IV.
  • The Unreveal:
    • The evidence was very obviously planted in Tylor's locker. So who is the real saboteur?
    • Why did Roger have red spray paint on his tentacles?
  • Wham Episode: Tylor is accused of being the saboteur and has lost his friends and his job.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sulley and Mike chews Tylor out for his accusations against Roger while Tylor angrily calls Sulley out in return for being a little too trusting towards Roger.
